In before it's a poor quality cable, my 100e gold plated monster cable is far superior - it's not!
With digital signals such as this, it either works or it doesn't -
the quality will indeed be equal to a cable 50 times the price

HDMI cables are always 1.50 in dealz, or any pound shop, no offence OP, but how is this a bargain?

    Cheaper on eBay usually.....

PS - cheapest non-auction cable on eBay at the moment (including shipping to Ireland) is €1.76.

Unless you did something mad and tried to plug it into a wall socket, there's no electricity in HDMI leads,it carries digital signals only.

BTW,tests found that cheap ones work just as well as expensive ones. There's no middle ground with HDMI leads - they either work or don't.

    It really isn't.

These would need to break at a phenomenal rate before you'd make back the cost of even a 9.99 one. They either work 100% or they don't at all - there is no in between. If they don't work at all you return them.

This is true. The HDMI cable is lots of wires making what is in essence 2 unique connections. The signal on each connection is out of phase with the other. When they are reconfigured at the opposite end, any noise picked up along the way will not have other noise with the exact opposite phase so is removed. Hence any HDMI cable that transmits the 2 out of phase signals from one end to the other is just as good as any other HDMI cable.

Signal speed does come into play however, some cables are faster than others. Unless you have a 4k tv, then it shouldn't matter. There are four basic types of HDMI cables:

    •High-speed (also called Category 2)
•High-speed (also called Category 2) with Ethernet
    •Standard-speed (Category 1)
    •Standard-speed (Category 1) with Ethernet

Standard-speed cables are rated to carry up to 1080i but most handle 1080p anyway although they're not required to (3D doesn't come into it, so ignore any salesperson who tells you otherwise).

Got 2 for €5 for 2.5m cables in Lidl a few years ago & still going strong, they are actually better made than the Monster ones as the outside is armoured.

No wonder Peats is closed down, people copping onto the fact that top of the range/overpriced isn't always better.

Have a middle of the road cable (maybe paid 9.99 for it a few years ago) and it works perfectly on main TV for connection between HTPC but for some reason keeps losing the handshake when I use it between XBOX and another TV in a different room.
So just goes to show this ’either works or won't work' isn't always true.

However my 1.49 cable is just as good as the one my brother in law paid €50 for his 3D TV.

This post should explain the cables, older cables sometimes aren't compatible with newer equipment.

A lot of negativity surrounding my post. People should bear in mind there's naive folk out there duped into spending big bucks. I knew cables were cheap but until today didn't know they had them that cheap in a bricks and mortar shop.

So hopefully someone read my post and saved a few shillings.

Ah grand no bother, thanks for that. Btw, I bought all new hdmi cables for my amp, satellite receiver, and blue ray player, today. I needed to because the amp supports 3d and 4k so technology never stops moving. The older cables which originally cost me over €100 each now obsolete

Get him to dump his old cables on you and ebay them to similarly gullible people? I'm sure they look quite shiney.

    http://www.amazon.com/AudioQuest-K2-Terminated-Speaker-Cable/dp/B000J36XR2

$14,000 audio cable from AudioQuest - I'm posting it for those who haven't read the comments before.

Also, €1.49 cable from deals works a treat, there's no point in being skeptical about it...just buy the damn thing...if it doesn't work then what's €1.49 to you?

There's a reason for those ridiculously high prices on Ebay and Amazon. There are loads of listings like that.

Normally they are maintaining Search Engine Position.

With eBay, the more items that you sell off a single listing, the higher up the Best Match search results you will appear. Ebay judges "popularity" to be an important criteria for search rankings. But if you cancel your listing, you start again at the very bottom of the search results.

So what they do is create what is called a "Good-till-cancelled" listing, which runs forever. That way, they get massive sales and good search engine results.... then you just leave it there with a high price when you are out of stock.

So... unlike a normal listing that ends in 10 days, Stores listings can run forever.. and you can edit them as required.

I have 2 of the dealz hdmi cables, both have worked perfectly for almost a year. I do laugh at the people spending anything over a fiver on them.

I had someone in work the other day buy one for €25, we are 30 seconds away from a Dealz shop, I probably should have told her :)

To be fair, the poorer quality cheaper ones may well work sometimes without problems but some of us want some peace of mind when purchasing stuff like that so dont mind stumping up a few extra quid for better quality

So they're long enough for my TV setup but maybe not everyones e.g. a high up wall-mounted TV with a low stand for the set top box or whatever.

I've about half a dozen HDMI leads in the house, somebody tried to tell me the Sky ones are crap but they work fine. The most expensive ones are 2m long & cost about a fiver for 2 of them.

I think you're missing the point, you can't have better quality, they work or they don't. I've never bought a "cheap" one that didn't work.

No i believe your missing the point...I get the on/off argument, i really really do.
If i choose to pay a little extra for higher quality components in the lead (especially leads of 3 metres or over) that may be more robust and durable than a more cheaply produced lead then why not accept that as a valid point of view. Cant we all just get along:confused:

Tv in one corner of room....couch, table and laptop in opposite corner. I like to have it lying on the ground rather than set up as a trip wire for the family and the almost completely blind dog

So where does "robustness" come in? Did you put much thought into your power lead or lead from the aerial/UPC?

I think you need to read my post again. Component quality doesn't come into it and certainly not for leads less than 30m unless you're using it for Ethernet? How durable does it need to be in your home? Its not like there's industrial strength requirements to withstand extreme heat, cold, abrasion, stresses, strains etc?

Either way, for a simple cost benefit analysis: if you buy two Eur1.50 cables and leave one as a spare to replace the first one at the end of its lifetime, its still cheaper than buying one Eur5 HDMI cable that probably wont last 2x lifetimes of the cheaper cable. If your blind dog can chew through the cheaper cable, he'll most certainly make his way through an expensive one. At least going for the cheaper option, you'll have a replacement (and money for a 3rd plus 1/5th of a bag of chips).

There is very little noise going to be added at the connectors at each end. These would be less than 1cm in length and should be machined to fit correctly and allow for an optimum signal handshake. Replacing aluminium with copper, gold or even silver wouldn't make any significant difference.

In fact, I cant think of any reason why your cable would ever need to be touched after installation unless you're connecting to a different device at either end. It seems like you are just trying to justify a poor decision to yourself?

They are not better quality. There is no difference between the ones I use from dealz and the ones I sell for €25.

That's not strictly true. You can get armoured cables for exterior use for example. Why you'd need them in a residential environment is another issue entirely. The Eur25 ones will have no obvious benefit to ANY homeowner though.
