The host returns with more light-hearted chat, talking to Hollywood star Harrison Ford about his new sci-fi adventure Ender's Game, and Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch, currently appearing as WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in The Fifth Estate. Comedian and actor Jack Whitehall is also on the sofa, and there'll be music and chat from James Blunt, who performs new single Bonfire Heart from his forthcoming album Moon Landing

    BBC1 NI Friday 11.05pm
    Other BBC1 regions Friday 10.35pm
    3e Saturday 9.00pm
    TV3 Saturday 11.15pm
BBC1 NI Tuesday 12.15am (Late Monday Night)

    39253.jpg

Graham is firmly established as the Chat Show of choice for the Big Stars now, Alan Carr and Jonathan Ross have to made to with the rest.
Brace yourselves, Cumberfans: tonight's Graham Norton Show (10.35pm BBC1) sees your hero mixing it with proper Hollywood royalty in the shape of Harrison Ford, plus Bad Education funnyman Jack Whitehall. Massive giggles ensue.

Our spy in the audience at the recording (earlier this week) tells us that the C-bomb was so late, recording had to start without him, but when he did dramatically sashay onto the set he was looking especially hot, and seemed to entrance Harrison Ford almost as much as the screaming fans in the crowd.

    Good to see it back.

Anyone know why NI shows it later? Do they have a different watershed.

Just don't expect anything other than a faint pulse from Mr. Ford. He has a hard time doing human. Though I hope to be proved wrong. The alternative is Ryan Tubridy talking to a cat.

The last time BC was on Graham Norton I had to take a pregnancy test!

So glad it's back. I love Graham.

Delighted to see Benedict is back on the show again so soon after his last appearance. When he pretended to be Graham the last time, I nearly split myself laughing!

I don't get the Cumberbatch love either. Think I'll watch it tomorrow night on TV3. Dad is watching Nikita so I don't think I'll be able to wrestle the remote off him.

He is really quite ugly tbh. I am genuinely shocked that he was voted the sexiest man on the planet or whatever it was.

Currently airing 'The Blame Game', NI comedy panel show. Quite funny it is to.

Graham has asked him are you still been compared to an otter :)
As i'm watching it on the HD channel, saves me watching the snore bore on the LLS.

It's not Benedict Cumberbatch's looks really - it's his personality. I'm not one for the cheesy his personality makes him sexy - but holy jesus what I'd not do to that man if I got him in a room ....

and, here, you'd hardly kick this out of bed for eating taytos

Good way for Harrison to deflect the question on being in the new star wars as Benedict seems to know more than him!

Benedict is rumoured to be in it and has been evading the question himself. Ye all watching it on BBCNI? Wandering why ye are delayed reacting to events :p

It looks like its on different schedules on BBC NI 11.05pm & HD 10.35pm on Sky, & UPC i assume 11.05. Although as soon as the misery comes on the LLS, you lose the will to change the channel :P

Well Benedict will be working with the same Director from Star Trek & Harrison i think doesnt really know, but will probably appear maybe half way thru the film in some capacity maybe in a flashback with the rest?

Harrison Ford doing Expendables 3 & he hasnt seen the first 2?
    He really isn't funny.

Who's that, Jack Whitehall, he's better as an ensemble in Fresh meat, as thats coming back soon this month i think.

Yup, it is JJ Abrams that did Star Trek that will be doing the reboot of Star Wars. Not too sure I'd like to see BC in it, he's great as Sherlock and good in the period dramas and he is a top actor, just hope he doesn't become a Hollywood sellout like Johnny Depp.

Yeah, since Sherlock & since its been on BBCAmerica, its propelled both stars as BC is everywhere now as he said if i remember has 4 films out & went against recommendations to do Fifth Estate & Martin Freeman has become a bit stuck-up since hitting the big time as well.

    He really isn't funny.

I personally wouldn't go and see him live but I do think he's quick witted and he was fairly funny on tonights show. Ford looked genuinely impressed with his humor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,133 ✭✭✭Patty O Furniture

Yeah, he's better working off someone, as i think i saw him pair with some other comedian on the Big Quiz show with Jimmy Carr & another show i can remember at moment.

I cringed watching it a couple of times last night. They had the Co Presenter from the Republic Of Telly on it, the fella, not the girl. There was segment firstly on Michael Stone currently serving a jail sentence turned artist, and he asked who was he. Then when there was a reference made to Operation Yew Tree, the Scotland Yard investigation in the Jimmy Saville et al, and he also asked what that was as well.

You could forgive him for not knowing what operation Yew Tree might have been about, but would have thought at Irish Comedian, on an NI Comedy Panel Show would have at least heard of Michael Stone.

Wrong thread, but Paul McCartney is one of the guests next week (18th Oct). Perhaps if Ryan Tubridy gets eaten alive by a circus tiger next week on live TV it'll upstage it. Maybe.

The comedian guest is useful in certain types of show to break it up, like Micky Flanagan's last appearance. Despite him not being funny to me, he breaks up the conversation especially if there's an uninterested or serious guest an a serious topic.

Found Harrisson very hard to watch, felt for GN in parts. He seemed to be in defensive mode & really didn't want to be there.

Very rarely does interviews, seen him a couple times on Letterman acting the exact same way....he's quite an odd character

I thought he opened up and started enjoying himself as he went on to be honest. Thought it was going to be a cringefest for the first 5 minutes but credit to Graham and Jack too for bringing him out of himself.

harrison has a sence of humour, obviously, as he said it the all day repetitions sessions that annoy him and probably where he got the incorrect reputation of being humourless

Isnt Tubs a big fan of Macca? maybe someone should tell/tweet him to say he's on a rival channel, if Tubs knows his guests are boring, he may tune in to Graham himself :P

Think to be fair to previous poster they may have meant the "sexiest man in the world" title as opposed to his obvious acting skills. I disagree with them mind :p He's such a charming, sexy man.

Anyway, leaving that aside, I went to see The 5th Estate and he was brilliant in it. Great actor.

Looking forward to GN again next week, another top line-up.

Yeah he does have this aura - seems like such a genuine nice guy with a great talent. People should have a look at his Reddit AMA from the other night for a hint of his intelligence and humour. The story of the carjacking he was caught up in in South Africa is rather eye-opening as well.

I'm one of those that has a thing for cheekbones so he's very high up my list :)

I second reading Cumberbatch's AMA. He responded to Julian Assange's less than generous appraisal of his work in the Fifth Estate and he's very witty. And yes, he has a very engaging voice. I do like a good voice.

Thought it was a good opener, always great energy on Graham norton which is a stark contrast to the morgue-like atmosphere over on Radio Telefis Eireann.
GN did seem to struggle a bit with Harrison ford and at times things were a little awkward. But I've seen Harrison ford on other talk shows like conan(where I think he was drunk) and this seemed like a roaring success in comparison. I really like Harrison ford though and I can fully understand his dislike for that whole publicity machine thing. Being asked the same lame questions over and over.....I've seen him in other interviews where he was being asked intelligent and thoughtful questions and he was like a completely different person, very open and talkative.
As for Benedict cumberbatch being a sex symbol....... I do and I dont get it. I remember seeing starter for 10 and thinking BC was a bit of a twat but funny. As far removed from a sex symbol as you could get though. I think TV and film can create these images out of nothing and people will buy it hook line and sinker. I cant remember his name(he was in peep show) but when a comedian was told that he was a sex symbol he groaned and rolled his eyes. He said that it was inevitable that somebody somewhere in the world would find him attractive by virtue of the fact that he was on the telly. Had he been a bloke who was never on tv and just walking down the street, not one woman would give him a second look.

He does a lot of audio books, including some Sherlock Holmes titles. He also does a fantastic Alan Rickman impression so that makes him alright in my book :D

He's probably just sick of the same old Star Wars/Indiana Jones questions for the past 30 years. As you would be in fairness, press junket tours must be mind numbing for actors, sitting in a room with a 5-10 minute window and endless journalists asking you the same questions over and over for hours , balls to that.
