"AN IRISH MAN who moved into a new apartment in Leamington Spa got more than he bargained for in the lease when he discovered something beneath the floorboards."

Irish man discovers secret ‘dungeon’ under his apartment floort

What the funk?!? I immediately thought of Josef Fritzl. I doubt it is anything near as sinister but Wow!!!! Wonder if he will find a safe in there too?

    Heres hoping :D

Wonder how long it took to 'discover' - what with the handles on full display and all ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,592 ✭✭✭✭kneemos

    Wasn't that secret in fairness.
Had an obvious hatch with a handle.

Looks like his new apt was grafted on to the remains of an older building beneath.

It's not a dungeon without a skeleton or two or a torture device.

Nothing to see here, next week, man finds change under sofa cushion.

    It's a burner room

What would you class that bed in the picture as?

I had to sleep on an orthopedic mattress when I went to visit my granny as a teenager...

If I had any hidden secrets, I would have sung like a canary after a summers worth of sleepless nights tossing and turning on that brick... *shudder* the horrors!

Why is it a 'dungeon'? Surely its just a basement or a cellar.

It's probably not a bed at all, might be just reinforcing or accomodating a sewer pipe or anything.

a burner room for an apartment?

might be that the hatch is new, and the room was bought from the complex by a previous owner, but there's no reason why an apartment needs its own burner room.

Hehe, one of the comments on that article:

"He must have leveled up and and unlocked his first dungeon."

Obviously the apartment wasn't there years ago, probably a converted Georgian or something,

Tank would of been on that raised platform.

mmm I doesn't look like it was that well hidden in fairness he hardly discovered it.. Sorry to put a downer on it but me thinks some either tried a no planning extension or just decided to get creative..Would'nt mind something like this..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,499 ✭✭✭✭Alun

It's just a very ordinary cellar, very common in old properties in the UK. Plus it was hardly 'secret' was it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,559 ✭✭✭blaze1

I like the way he send his female friend in further to investigate while he takes pics of her hole

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,453 ✭✭✭Shenshen

So he opened a clearly visible hatch and found a basement?

    And that's news?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,658 ✭✭✭Milly33

yep yep.. but look it has a coffin bed... It only we all opened a hatch and there was a spare room down there ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,295 ✭✭✭✭Duggy747

Not really a secret now, is it?

A potential secret sex dungeon gone to waste by telling everyone on the web.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81,220 ✭✭✭✭biko

    Last renter was Fritzl.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,238 ✭✭✭humbert

There's probably another 'dungeon' above the ceiling too, albeit a relatively modern one.

Jesus that is brilliant - i'd kill for something like that under my apartment. Kill for it, not in it! A beer fridge, a few chairs, internet connection and a ipod dock and i'd rarely come up to ground level again!

    Ughh imagine the spiders

That 'bed' looks more like the base for an old central heating boiler or maybe even a laundry room in the basement.

It also looks like a window was bricked up. Perhaps some people broke in scribbled on the walls and squatted there or something in the past? Who knows.

The rest of it just looks like your typical grotty basement.

I'd be more concerned about radon than anything else!

    Leamington Spa! Woo Hoo!

It's my home town. Well, it's next to my home town.

Now, where's that trivial acheivements thread?

I think it's cool. I would love a creepy basement.

Imagine the fun you can have with friends who didn't know about it.

"Say guys, what's that noise? Do you hear that? It sounds like it's coming from...under the floor?"

I've seen places to rent that look like the basement.

Very modern-looking basement...built of breeze blocks and with dodgy-looking wiring aroound the place...possibly a 1940's bomb shelter.

He obviously lives in a converted house and this is part of the basement...the brickwork looks really, really shabby though and i would hope it's not supporting anything.
