    if your budget is limited to €500 (no Btw?)

    They look into the 2nd hand market instead of buying BSO's

    If your only spending 500 you'd get much more for ur money second hand. Try the mad mtb forum or epic mtb forum

    I have not been lead to believe Carrera and Voodoo bikes are BSO's?

    They are not BSOs. They are bona fide MTBs, albeit low-end ones. If you want to dip your toes in mountain biking for a reasonable price, without the potential pitfalls of a used bike, they are a solid option. Just be aware that it won't be cost-effective to upgrade these bikes over time. If you catch the bug and learn a little about brands and components, then you can search out a nice used bike.

    Just updating to say that I bought the Voodoo Bantu. I couldn't be happier with it.
