    HI,
A neighbour just came up to me and said that he has the forms to renew his medical card which he's had for several years. He does not work and is on state benefits. Long term cancer treatment. He is very puzzled and so am I that the form asks if he has a car and if so would he please send in his NCT?

Anyone have any ideas on this.

    Thanks for reading.

Are you sure that they asked for a copy of his NCT & not his Vehicle Registration Certificate? They ask for that if the applicant wants their travel to work costs to be taken into account, which along with other outgoings such as rent, mortgage & childcare costs bring some people's income to within qualifying limits for a medical card.

If he isn't working or if his sole income is a social welfare payment or he should just put N/A in this section.

Ive just been looking at the online application for a medical card and it looked reasonable enough until it deals with what documents you need to send in. This is not properly explained and very unclear. They state that alot of forms are returned because people do not send in the right documents but this is because its not explained properly.Basically, anything you declare on the form must be backed up by a document,They even want a document to prove your rsi no. I applied before and you just sent a form to the local health office declaring your income and savings, no documents at all required. You can send copies, they dont want originals

Thank you for replies. The nieghbour has just realised that it was probably that they thought he was at work and going to claim travel costs but he is not and so will not declare his car.

    Thanks again.

I send 32 different sheets of A4 paper in with my application and a copy of the VRC was one of them, I have no idea how a family in crisis manages to get all that together.
