    Hi

I'm thinking of doing a 10k race this weekend as a sharpener for DCM. Havent raced since the Athlone half and could do with a speed/confidence booster! Just wondering what your thoughts are? I started a 3 week taper after my last 20 miler on Saturday from a max weekly mileage of 60 - 65M. I hope to run sub 3 in the marathon. My mileage wont exceed 40M this week.

    Thanks in advance

I'd go for it myself, as it is a great sharpener as you say...In my original plan I had a 10km 14 days before my Autumn marathon this year but was sick so had to drop it.

Given that Dublin is on a Monday, I see no issues doing it 2 weeks out...I'd even recommend a 5-10km...nothing closer than 14 days though...

Not sure where your located but there is a 10K in Donadea this Saturday that is a popular one.

If you go for it dont go all out. Personally I would do a park run instead at 80%

I'd go for it myself, but, only if it was entirely my own idea and I hadn't been coerced by anyone else, especially Gavlor.

    FYP ;)

Donadea 10k on Saturday or if that sells out there is the Longwood 10k on Sunday.

Thanks folks. I'm in the midlands, there's a 10k in Moylough and an 8k in Tarmonbarry so will probably do one of those. Dont know if I could race at 80%, its usually all out or nothing with me! If I do it I think I'll race it!

Well if the marathon is not that important, then go all out for it.

Oh the marathon is very important, its my A race for the year. I think I should be fully recovered from a 10k by wednesday next week. I appreciate your opinion and advice average runner, this is exactly why I posted, to get views and advice from people like yourself. I think it was Blockic who said he would recommend a 5/10k so we all have different ideas, thats the beauty of boards! This tapering craic is hard work, I'm hoping the few niggles I feel are just the effects of "tape madness" and not real issues

Personally, a three-week taper is too long for me. I think a 10k race in a 40 mile week (assuming that's not a peak week!) would be a great sharpening tool for Dublin and how would help to keep the sharpness in the legs.
