All adsl2/adsl2+ modems are backwards compatible with the adsl protocol.

Just buy one of the ADSL2+ modems to be safe, they are no more expensive than the adsl ones.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-TD-W8960N-300MBPS-Wireless-connections/dp/B0031SUB4S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381328646&sr=8-1&keywords=W8960N

That one is about 30 euro delivered.

Cheers Guys, did see that one, but need one with dual band & 2 USB ports (NAS & Printer)

Had been looking at this one

But it mentions that it's not compatible with standard ADSL

That product you wish to buy says it may not be suitable for ADSL...
*REQUIRES AN ADSL2 or ADSL2+ CONNECTION (Not recomended for standard ADSL connection)

What speed are you getting? You could go here and type in the username and password of the admin page to your router. Most have the standard ADMIN and PASSWORD for the login but if it isn't those check the manual for your modem. You don't have one? Search online! :D

    This

A bit pricey, but looks to be what I'm looking for.

Another feature I need is the ability to block specific sites (Ask.fm etc) and my current somewhat elderly router/modem setup doesn't allow that.

I have the non adsl version of this one and it is pretty decent. You can block websites from the web-ui on this one too.

Nce one, that looks the biz, for that price I think I can survive without the dual band :P

Just copped it only has one USB :(

Ended going for the Fritzbox, more expensive (considerably!) I know, but should do for quite some time to come :D

Thanks everyone for all the help :)

You can't go far wrong with a Fritzbox.

    Just a quick update.

    Fritz!Box 3390 arrived today.

Absolute breeze to set up, excellent interface.

Marked difference in speeds & coverage.

Quality piece of kit, well worth the few bob :p

....and AVM won't forget you now that they have your money. They continue to roll out updates of firmware which brings new features to older hardware.

Looking at getting a Fritzbox also for Gigabit LAN and VoIP.

Already have a NAS on ethernet so if the fritzbox has a media player also and you hang an external drive off it direct assume there is no clash with other media player devices i.e. smart tvs indetecting both?

Dont need a huge amount of additional functionality so is 3XXX series models good enough for home office user?

I've no problems with multiple media players on my network and smart TVs (fritz.box 7390 and a couple of windows PCs in my case), one thing to be careful of is that the latest firmware update, 6.01, removed support for SMB so using it as a NAS is not quite as functional, you can still FTP files to a drive attached to it but probably more useful as a media unit now than as a proper NAS.

Thanks. Are device homepages easily navigateable & plenty online info?

Yeah, once you have some idea of basic general networking and your own setup it's easy to get going with the frit.box, the info in the box is good and there is a good FAQ on the AVM site.

    http://www.avm.de/en/service/FAQs/?js=enabled.

You can always ask on boards either.
