    Hi guys,

I have a few Nokia shares. What happens now that Microsoft have taken them over do I have to sell the shares or will they be replaced by Microsoft shares?

    Thank you

Nokia are still in business, they just sold their mobile division to Microsoft not the whole company. Nothing will change with the ownership of your shares, you will not be forced to sell them.

It might be worth your while seeing what the remaining business is like and deciding if you still think its a good investment holding the shares.

If you can sell them without making a loss then you should probably consider it. Its been a long time since nokia was a player in the mobile phone market and I can't really see what Microsoft would have to gain by taking them over. Its very unlikely that nokia will ever make a phone that can compete with anything that apple, samsung, lg or htc have to offer.

Microsoft have purchased the mobile division

Thanks for the input guys. I was going to sell them until I took gordongekko's advice and did a bit more research (which I should really have done first). It seems that Nokia might release two dividends shortly enough so I think im going to wait a few months. They stopped giving dividends for the first time in 143 years during the crises.

It also seems that they can start making mobiles again in 2016 which gives them some times for serious R&D if they choose that route. Anyway, I think they are worth holding on to for a another six months to see what happens.

To be honest, I took on them in the first place and Im already up quite a lot so I don't mind waiting a bit longer. When I first posted I thought I would be forced to sell them or they would be converted in Microsoft shares.

Anyway, I'm still very new to all this so I have learnt lot from this thread alone so, again, thanks for your input. Appreciate it.

I seem to remember some ex Nokia executives setting up their own mobile company and using old Nokia technology to launch their own mobiles. Maybe with the new management in nokia you could see them rejoin and develop their platform in house again.
