With all the postings on here re the premium that the CH is attracting as a weanling. Has anyone gone down the road of crossing a CH bull on a PB Saler.

I have read the Saler annual and it is a cross that they promote and from what I can make out one that is practiced in France.

Also, the general comment re salers are that they are wild to put it mildly but is this true:confused:

We use “culard" charolais on pure Aubrac cows and are delighted. In the past we used Blue or charolais but there was no real advantage. Usufruit from dovea is the recommended culard bull from the french society. Easy calved , consistent and great muscle but I would only use on pure cows.

No but saw that calf in the aubrac stand. That calf would be a typical example of what I’m saying. 40% of the french aubrac herd is crossed with the culard and the consistency is amazing. All go to italy and command top price.

Salers make a decent cow nd good cross with a saler. Good growthy well boned golden colour calf. The only problem I have is to get my hands on them. I only saw them in another mans herd. He has about 10-20 salers mixed in the herd and is mad about them he counts them the best cows he has!

The Shorthorn is a similar type animal, only difference is they are far quieter, leave better hair on calf from Char bull and are better mothers;)

hoping to try this cross here in the next few years, picked up a Saler weanling heifer at the mart lately for 490 off of ODX accoring to her details on the Dept website. Next door neighbour has a small dairy herd and there's a lovely red heifer running with one of the cows, might inquire about her aswell

There is a PB herd of salers down this way and they run their own culard char with them ...and no more problems than the next man....serious calves

Id fully agree. A nice shorthorn cannot be bet without a shadow of a doubt. Iv a few. But picking up more is hard. The dairy ones are goin to scrawny and the beef are moving to far from milk. I think a shorthorn crossed with limo makes lovely calves nd nice replacements. I cross mine with CWI from dovea. Im very happy with him, easy calved, lively calves suckling in a matter of minutes and growthy long tall calves with muscle without being overdone!

I agree Lanzac was brilliant I am sorry I didn't buy more straws when they were available, we used him for regularly on all cow types and were never disappointed . We tried Rambo aswell but not with the same success
