I propose that there's never been a thread in AH that hasn't had a reference to religion in this country, including this one now

True enough but its no longer cool to bash religion. All the hip kids these days are bashing atheism.

The 'If we didn't bail out the banks....' argument answers every single question on boards.ie

    Why are the glaciers melting?
Well, if we didn't bail out the banks we'd have the money to put it into research to try and discover reasons to halt it.

What is the meaning of life?
Whatever it is, it doesn't involve bailing out banks, sure that's the most meaningless thing in life to do!

2,500 jobs have been announced. What is your reaction?
Well, if we didn't bail out the banks, then many more jobs would have been created!

As you can see, there's not one question which in some way cannot be answered with the 'If we didn't bail out the banks...' argument. Hence, our version of Godwin's Law is nothing less than Banker's Law.

    Just one last thing...

If it wasn't for bailing out the banks, I wouldn't even be writing this!

Bertie/FF/bankers. There's always somebody who manages to get in a reference when there's absolutely no need for it.

Instead of AH Godwin, I suggest we call them "Bertiewins"

What's this now? Have we repealed Godwins Law?

Have to go with Bankers Law as well. Everything bad is because of the bankers and everything good would have been better if not for the bankers. Damn them and their forcing everyone to take their money!

Saying that you're merely "not PC" rather than racist, while being racist.

The amount of people who complain about this term vastly outweigh the number of posters who actually ever use it.
You're far more likely to see something along the lines of "I suppose you're going to accuse me of being a west brit now," rather than "you are a west brit."

Should we all be west brits now.
East American might be more appropriate these days.

"I have freedom of speech" or "well I'm entitled to my opinion". There are certain topics that attract the cretins who wheel those out like seagulls to a bag of chips.

What does "I'm entitled to my opinion" even mean? Is it some kind of inference that opinions are sacred and can't be criticised?
Only when they're critical of certain things, of course, otherwise you're a raving PC loonie whose opinions are worth Jack ****.

"Godwin's Law" is getting seriously old. Some people yell it out at any opportunity at all. It doesn't look clever - sometimes mention of the nazis/Hitler is of relevance.

    No, the LeBron James bible

I guess it depends on how much time you spend on internet forums. The more time you spend the more you'll see things repeated hence the quicker it gets old.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,080 ✭✭✭✭Maximus Alexander

OP, that post is the kind of question a nazi Hitler would ask.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 121 ✭✭Mark Twain

Godwin's Law is itself a copy and paste job of the theory known as Reductio ad Hitlerum which was first put forward in the 1950's.

    Godwin is a spoofer.

Or how long you've been on internet forums.

Nothing wrong with saying it when reference to the nazis is ridiculous, but it doesn't have to be trotted out EVERY time, even when a reference to the nazis is apt.
