For a start Kate DON'T go to Durrus looking for a cable car , its a long way from Dursey where the cable car is situated !!

Dursey Island is beautiful and the cable car is a little mini adventure all by itself. IMO you would need very good weather (as we had when we visited) to enjoy the island. If it rains you have absolutely no where to go (no pub, no shop, no shelter). That being said, the views along the cliff road are beautiful.

Are you a family group, hikers or just causal visitors?

There was talk of closing it down altogether a few months back as there was some wear and tear spotted on the cable or some part of the car itself. The council said at the time that they didn't have the money to do a complete repair so some remdial work was done. Needless to say, transporting cows across wasn't helping the situation. (On a side note, how do you get a cow not to do their business while in a cable car).

From what I could see, it looks like the cows 'do their business' in the car :D

That's easy, just put up a sign.
