    Allrite folks,

As winter is approaching, and I will be doing mostly indoor turbo trainer cycling. Ive decided to use an old wheel and tyre on the trainer and save my good cosmic wheel for the summer months next year. I need to get a new cassette to use on my old wheel but I am unsure how to match that to my chain. Its a 10 speed cassette I need and Ive found a tiagra one cheap on chainreaction but its asking me to choose the teeth side I need (11-25t, 12-30t, 12-28).

How can I find out how to match this to my chain tooth size? Ive looked up my bike on a few websites but no joy in information .. I have a cube pelonton race 2012

    Thanks

You have a 10sp cassette so you will need a 10sp chain.
the numbers (11-25 etc) are the number of teeth on the cassette and will have nothing to do with chain size.

    Thanks,

So I presume a Tiagra 4600 10 speed cassette will fit my chain then? Excuse my ignorance but what difference does the amount of teeth on the cassette make ?

If you're getting a new cassette, get a new chain as well. Old parts wear out new parts quicker.

The amount of teeth are what makes a gear harder or easier.

Just get a 12/27 cassette. The highest number is the easy gear, the higher the number the easier the gear is. It wont make much difference on a turbo but you ay as well get something that will be of use if you were to use that wheel on the road and 12/27 gives a good spread of gears.

Problem!! I bought a 12/30 Tiagra 10 speed cassette and it arrived today but it wont fit my old hub despite it being a shamino hub... Am I missig something here??

Will only certain tooth sized 10 speed cassettes fit certain hubs? I thought all shamino hubs were universal to all shamino cassettes??

There's a wider gap, you need to match these up to slot it on.

Oh yes I understand what you mean alas, I did, with no success! That being said i didnt force it but there was enough resistance to make it feel "not right"
