I have a field of strong weanling bulls on very good grass and getting 1kg beef nuts/ day * 6 weeks but they after getting very loose in the last week ...I'm blaming the wet grass ..should I stop the nuts for a while or keep going would they be at risk of tetney if they stay so watery/loose...they r well dosed so it's not that...

Drop out a bale of straw to them and they will pick away at it this will dry them up.

    weanlings don't get grass tetany.

Young cattle like that need to be on a high energy high protein nut, beef nuts/ration not high enough protein for them

Know a fella, mixing half and half std 16% beef nuts, and rolled barley. Adds some (don't know joy much) soybean meal on top.
Seems to work well, by looking at the stock.

I'm adding beet pulp to my mix. Keeping them dry

Soya bean is 48% protein so by adding a only a small bit could easily push that up to 18-19% protein, exactly where it should be.

Have similar problem, barley coming out in the dung. Tried the straw, no success yet. Housing them as soon as a shed is ready.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Soya hulls are best fibre source for cattle on grass. I am not sure will copper help it as well. Would consider Hay or straw a little bit will do. Good hay best of the lot.

Blue5000 if barley is coming out in dung more than likely not enough protein in ration. Minerals are a big thing this time of year especially with young stock. If you have the balance right they should do.

Soyahulls 30%, barley22% Maize 20% Soyabean meal 18% 3%minerals 2% calcium and 5% molasses would be ideal could increase soyabean by 2% to bring ration to 18%P.

If only feeding 1-2kgs Just soyahulls and soyabean meal with minerals and calcium

TBH that would be a special order 3ish tons. This is the problem with small bags a miller throws somthing into it and charges 7 yoyo's a bag or less if he fills it with poor ingrediants.

Above would be an ideal mix. Any of you suckler farmers in discussion groups should consider getting a group to source such a mix. If you could agree to share a 10ton lot you would get it mixed and baged at less than 7/bag. In bulk i expect to buy at around 265/ton maybe less for 3-4ton deliveries.

Even soyahulls 77% and soyabean meal 18% with calcium and minerals would be a superb feed for weanlings on grass this time of year if only feeding 2kgs/day. In bulk would cost less than 250/ton.

I cannot understand why you cannot get hulls in bags they bak beet pulp and charge through the nose. Again a small buyer group could probally source hulls in bags in 10 ton lots soyabean meal is easy enough got as is calcium(cubicle lime) and minerals
