So, Tarantino has released his top of 2013(so far). Haven't seen a few of the , but not sure I agree with the ones I have seen. The only one that ,I personally, would have put there is ,The Conjuring. I'm fairly sure The Lone Ranger is thrown in there either as a goof or to try and get people to look at the steaming piece of ****. I really liked This is The End, but wouldn't place it as one of the best movies of the year.Although trying to think of really great movie releases this year ,I'm drawing a blank.

Here are Tarantino's top 10 of 2013 so far:
    Afternoon Delight (Jill Soloway)
    Before Midnight (Richard Linklater)
    Blue Jasmine (Woody Allen)
    The Conjuring (James Wan)
    Drinking Buddies (Joe Swanberg)
    Frances Ha (Noah Baumbach)
    Gravity (Alfonso Cuarón)
    Kick Ass 2 (Jeff Wadlow)
    The Lone Ranger (Gore Verbinski)
This Is The End (Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg)

So what are people's opinions on the list?

Have only seen the ones in bold of which Kick Ass 2 was the best of the four. All four were watchable in a not great so year tbh. I'm struggling myself to think of any outstanding film ive seen this year.

The Conjuring, Frances Ha and Before Midnight are excellent.

Blue Jasmine and This is the End are quite good.

The inclusion of Kick-Ass 2 just has me scratching my head. Such a sloppily made film.

Before Midnight is the best film of the year so there's that.

This is the End was great. Surprised there's no White House Down and Rush though.

Why no Rush, easily the best film of the year for me. The only film I've seen infact that wasn't total mindless drivel.

Take away the "Tarantino" part of the title and it could just be anyone's random selection of films. Did he even supply a justification for his choices, because Kick Ass 2 in particular is a really hard one to fathom. I'm stumped.

I haven't seen The Lone Ranger (and from what I understand it didn't deserve the shellacking it got so maybe it gets a pass) and the rest's worth could be variously argued, but Kick Ass 2 was a dreadful, sloppy mess of a sequel; utterly lacking in any of the charm or subversion from the first film, and instead relying on trashy shocks and toilet humour that wouldn't be out of place in one of those awful Friedberg/Seltzer 'comdies'. I dunno, maybe Tarantino's Grindhouse sensibilities enjoyed the adolescent brainlessness of it all, I'd hope other people had more sense...

Good to know Tarantino remains a firm supporter of international cinema. Oh wait...

Baffled this ridiculous list is getting as much media attention as it is. Slow news week in the film world, obviously.

Tarantino courts media attention no matter how frivolous the subject, thats fairly clear by now. He's a name even the most cinema illiterate can recognise and has something of a personality cult around him; stands to reason his brainfarts get reported by standard news outlets and you'd see it with any other medium and its respective "auteurs" I'm afraid :)

I think 'eclectic' would be the kindest way to describe that list

More likely a fansite mailed him the question and he took the time to reply.

I think the blogosphere has blown this out of proportion. It's his list and he can put whatever he wants on it. He probably hasn't seen many films this year and this was the best of what he has seen. He watched a lot of films in his youth. Doesn't mean he watches a lot now.

He's previous top 10 lists were no great shakes either. All mainstream American stuff for the most part. Award contenders and blockbusters. Nothing that he wouldn't have received a screener for in the post.
