Looking for recommendations for a waterproof jacket.

Ideally something that is more than shower resistant for a 4-5 hour spin but wont have u soaking from sweat at the same time

You'll have to spend a fair bit of money to get a good quality jacket. I look for eVent material. Goretex material also gets good reviews. I bring a waterproof gilet if I think it's going to be showers on and off. If it's going to be constant rain I'd bring a waterproof gilet and a jacket. In the depths of winter I sometimes bring a small umbrella.

Also staying warm is more important than staying dry IMO. And if you are not in a race, the correct pacing strategy helps you stay comfortable.

It will take a bit of trial and error to get the right clothing solution for every meteorological eventuality.

Have tried a few different rain jackets, the Rapha one is brilliant, not too warm, try and get it on sale.

I have the Castelli Pocket Liner Jacket. It's really only for heavy duty rain wear. It's quite expenisve but you will not get wet in it. Its first class in that regard.
It's made from eVent material. They claim its quite breathable, but its not really. I sweat like a pig in it after a while due to our mild climate, it's does have two zips down either side which can be opened to let some air in though. I leave them open all the time.
The problem is with these hard shell jackets is that they all claim to be breathable but none of them really are. They're designed to stop moisture getting in, so by design no moisture (ie sweat) can get out either. This is the Holy Grail of rain wear; to design a jacket that will keep you dry, but is also completey breatheable.
It will fit in a jersey pocket, but its quite tight. I can take on/off clothing generally on the bike without stopping, but with this jacket I have to stop as I need to roll it up real tight to fit in my pocket which is a bit annoying. I bought it here, which was the cheapest I saw it online. On this side of the Atlantic, I've seen it for €300-350 approx.

Another option is the Castelli Gabba Jersey. This is made from their nano flex material which they claim to be waterproof & breatheable. I have a pair of their nano flex 3/4 tights & while they're pretty waterproof in showers, if its raining heavy, you're getting wet. The Inner Ring Blog wrote a good piece about it after Millan San Remo this year.
