Speed camera zones R148 Kinnegad - Kilcock

    Hey guys,

Recently started commuting from Moate to Dublin each day and always head off at Kinnegad to avoid the toll. Due to penalty points for speeding last year I have slowed right down and stick to the 80 limit (which is a ridiculous limit for such a wide road). However, I notice that other drivers constantly drive like they are still on the motorway and I keep wondering why are they risking it?

I just checked the garda website and checked the map of safety camera locations and it appears that there are absolutely no zones at all on the stretch from Kinnegad to Kilcock.

Is this right? Has anybody come across any recently? What the hell is the 80 limit for then? Why not have it as 100? It seems to me that the current limit will certainly be the cause of major crashes due to people foolishly overtaking.

I heard some guy on Matt Cooper last year( maybe) saying the speed limit is there to encourage use of the motor way.

Garda speed camera vans can operate outside of those zones btw. Only the private ones cant.

    Their choice.

But please OP, if you do insist on driving @ 80kph on that road (which should be 100kph IMO), please be courteous to other drivers that want to drive at 90kph by letting them over take you safely by pulling in a little into the hard shoulder (when safe).

    Thanks

I never do this anymore, have seen far too many accidents in the hard shoulder to warrant it.

    Especially at night time.

I will always let others overtake me - I have no desire to act the maggot. It just seems that there is a such a bad attitude on this road more than others I have come across. I mean, I can deal with others going maybe 10km over the limit but flying by at 120 regularly is just ridiculous. Even though I was caught by a speed van last year I think that there should be much more of a presence on this road or else up the limit to 100 again. I did a bit of research and it appears this road was downgraded from an "n" classroad to an "r" class after the motorway was put in place. What a disgraceful way to force people to pay for the motorway.

That road can take 100kph for the most part. It was the N4 before the motorway was built and in my experience, the Guards very rarely do checkpoints on it.

I have heard of some checkpoints near the Broadford area, but only there in the last month. There was a serious case of drunk a*****e there a couple of months ago and then there were a few checkpoints.
