Wall panels in bathroom

Do I have to use a special type of wall panel to use in a bathroom that has a shower and bath? or do I use wood and paint it with a special type of paint? also what do I do with the walls in the shower? Do I have to tile this area? Any tips appreciated. thanks.

There are plastic decor panels available for bathrooms.
