Took my lab pup out for a run earlier. She rose 2 teal up off a drain. 1 dropped one of them the far side of the drain. Sent her across after it. Took a bit of time but she eventually found it. Couldn't be happier right now.

Haha that's some dung to be preaching , one exceptional dog does not make up for all the years of Labrador winning these competitions , with the exception of a golden retriver called dorcus of mohill .

There is as far as I know only one man still trailing water spaniels today in Ireland .
For the most part Labrador have taken over .

At the end of the day once your quarry is retrieved it don't matter what gets it .

U took a spelling mistake that was clear to be seen and ran off with someone post . Instead of saying well don't lad the first retrieve is the hardest and congrats .

If ya want to start a thread about water spaniels please do , I'd love to hear about urs and a few pics too

    Well done!!

I got my first water based retrieve from my springer the other morn,he swam across a pond and found a snipe in the reeds, I had a smile you could have seen on google maps!! :)

In saying that he is a pain in the hole inside a duck hide,he won't sit still, I have to keep him on a lead, he doesn't shut up whining either, he has givin up the game on us a few times!
Although if I didn't have him with me I don't think I'd bother with the sport of shooting

Ye gotta love a lab for water fowl, they do such a good job

my springer bitch will retrieve off water all day long, and my other one is coming on the same way.id have one over a lab any day.but in saying that iv noticed some labs tend to mark a bird better, need less direction.i havent seen a water spaniel working, its one id like to see tho

I've only seen one water spaniel in the field, the fella has had it for a while.

I've never seen it actually manage to pick a bird, I'm not even sure it could pick it's own nose!
