BTEA and working

Hey guys, I'm 23 at the moment and working part-time, before receiving BTEA I got €144 rate from SW with €25 taken off for any day worked on X's and O's, which was usually two days, which left me with a €94 cheque on average. I thought BTEA wasn't means tested therefore should I not be getting €144 a week + wages?

This appears to be my BTEA rate for the year, is this a mistake or what I'm entitled to? I will struggle to pay for fees if this is the case. I will double check with SW on Tuesday but any info much appreciated.

    They changed it this year

Since 1 January 2013, if you are a new BTEA participant aged over 25 your weekly BTEA rate will be equal to your previous social protection payment (the payment that qualified you for participation in the scheme). I

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Crap, thats exactly what I didn't want to hear :(

This doesn't work in my favor as if I only worked one day a week or not at all while in college for example I would still only get €94 while on BTEA where as if I was still on X's and O's I would get €119/144.

You must apply for a SUSI grant to cover the fees in college. This will not affect your BTEA payment
