Dad's 50th coming up soon. He's a farmer and I was hoping to buy something for him farming related! I can spend about €100, maybe a bit more. What would a good present to get be? Good wellies? Proper socks?! Something else!?

Might seem a silly question but I'm hoping to get some ideas :/

Leatherman penknife, you won't have much change out of your 100yoyo though, probably the 'crunch' one or wave

If its a lamp you're after I can recommend the Led Lenser M7R .
Compact, rechargeable, serious light off it, good lasting in a charge, comes with a charging mounting for the jeep.
Not cheap. I think around €135 from flashlight.ie
It's the only lamp he'll ever want.

Head torch one of the compact LED type very handy if you need both hands to do something. Good pair of wellington most of us farmers spend our time buying cheap pairs. Dairygold are doing these BAUDOU BSX PAUILLAC WELLINGTONS 7 they are 50 euro I taught that they were very comfortable.

    Thanks everyone.
He had binoculars but they were dropped so that's a possibility.
He has a lamp that's years old that is rechargeable so I think that's ok for now.
I have been snooping,he wants cameras for the shed so I just need to find which ones he wants. Because they're quite expensive Im getting my sister involved too so we'll probably just ask him which one he wants rather than trying to figure it out.
He also mentioned a smart phone to link with the camera in the shed?! So we have lots of ideas, thanks everyone

Yeah yeah the smart phone is to link to the camera in the sheds...
He'll get no work done cos he'll be permanently online.... Boards get ready ...

Old boys arent really material men so just let him know how much you appreciate and a help out ever now and again will keep him well happy. Simple computer to get him online if he already isnt might be a good idea (are 50yr old computer dinosaurs?) and sure he might make an appearance on here.

you mention he has a light at present but I couldnt reccommend enough the new LED lights that take little charging and are so handy
http://www.toolbox37.co.uk/collections/franklin-lights-torches/products/franklin-tools-powerhand-21-5-led-light-black-aph26b or a head torch one

or failing that a good feed of grub cooked on his birthday. The way to a mans heart is through his stomach :)

I don't mean because of his age he's unfit, but weight yes! (I'd possibly also have a heart attack though :P)

Considered the flying lesson previously actually. Must give it some more serious thought and see if he would actually enjoy it.

How about something mundane like a really good electric fence tester.

How about a real Swiss army knife? Great for cutting the plastic of bales and lots of tools on them if he likes to tinker at stuff
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Victorinox-Swiss-Army-Knife-Champ/dp/B0001GS19U/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381073718&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=Victorioux+champ
I'm getting one for me Dad for Christmas, seems like a good product

tbh the champ is a bit too big and heavy to carry around with you. I've holes in all my back pockets from carrying a lighter Victoriox Cyber tool http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0001P14Y0/ so I'd suggest anyone thinking of buying one of the bigger Swiss Army Knives as a gift also get a belt pouch for it.

Will be more expensive but how about commissioning a painting of the farm most of the work can be done from photographs so no need to give the game away before hand.

Don't no use if buying a swiss army knife one like this is more useful. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Victorinox-Swiss-Army-Farmer-Knife/dp/B000MLQOVG/ref=pd_sim_sg_7

However most of these are little use to farmers. Especially those with big thick fingers. Often a good quality sing knife penknife is more suitable.
