    Hi all
    I went for test drive of one of these today lovely car. 2.5 auto top spec model. What do people make of them. Only 40k miles on it too. They said will do timing belt pads and new battery for me if going ahead with it. Are the auto box in these reliable it seemed to work ok to me in manual and full auto. Deal offered is 3700 plus my 03 focus. I know tax is high but that's why it's cheap enough!
    Thanks
    Gav

    beware servicing intervals on these. read up on it. then get the costing. also if you car needs to on the road everyday (and you don't have a 2nd car) you need to factor this in.

    i personally think they are a great machine BUT need to be minded. i wouldn't buy one without a serious warranty (or unless i knew its history from new)

    Any idea where I can get the service schedule? Is it very short? Is this aka h6 model? Would be used every day. Service every 3500 miles that's a bit mad if that's the case for it!

    I think it's the same as my Forester, ie every 15k kms or annually whichever comes first. They're pretty bulletproof mechanically, and very easy to live with. The H6 is a 3.0, different car.

    I hope your right I guess if I ring Subaru garage Monday they give service interval? Good to hear easy to live with. Only 170 bhp didn't think need service that often.

    So does anyone here own same car or Subaru with same engine that can comment on service intervals?

    I bought a 2006 2.5i wagon a couple of months ago. so cannot comment on service intervals.
    mine is a weekend car and i will struggle to rack up 10k per year.
    head over to this site plenty of info on them
    http://legacygt.com/forums/

    i do my own servicing but got the timing belt replaced by my mechanic belt and fitting came to €450
    that included
    Fitted new Plugs
    Belt and all pullies and tensioners
    Front trans oil flush and fill {oil bought in Subaru €90}
    Rear diff flush and fill
    Front lower control arm bushes {Megan Racing €90 e-bay{front and rear, common problem for the rear front bushing to crack causing woolly steering}

    heres a few pics

    Cheers for that. Looks similar to one I'm looking at but it's a saloon. What mileage is on yours? How you find it on petrol? Do you have any info on servive intervals like when you due next one?

    ok thanks for link I reckon that would mean only 1 service a year so won't do much mileage. Only 40k on looking at like new.

    So I rang the Subaru dealer there and they said service is every 15,000km or yearly. And timing belt and waterpump is 60k miles or 5 years. So that's standard enough.

    That is pretty much right. I own the 2.0l 04 manual model but mechanically in principle it is very similar. The 2.5l is a SOHC engine that is known for reliability. The auto boxes in those are also bullet proof as long as the car is serviced regularly. I've attached the maintenance schedule recommended by FHI.

    If you get the car and need more info as to what oil to use etc. or even service manuals give me a shout.

    Did motorcheck report and seeing mileage difference. 48k miles in May 2011 and 37 in June this year. It's 41k miles now.. Balls anyway! Not been taxed since April 2009 either. Could be a case of wrong miles vs km entered in 2011 as 48k km is 29k miles so that would be ok but I guess service history is only way to check.

    do your homework on it. things like that always put the fear into you.

    I will ring the garage tomorrow I think and if they dont have the service history or cant find it ill probably leave it off not worth the risk I think. Not really any other way to verify mileage other than service history? How does tax work too i just pay from when its signed over to my name they wont look for back tax?

    You could try ringing subaru dealer and see with them if there is an option to check the actual mileage. Sometimes the mileage other than on the odometer gets recorded in ABS electronic controller etc. It will cost you about 50 euros to computer diagnose the car. Could be worth it.

    its 15,000km service intervals on the boxer diesel aswell

    its a bit frustrating as I'm in for servicing every 8-9 months
    I have others who have cars that have 30,000km intervals (probably a bit high) but Subaru seem to have really short intervals
