Sexism on RTE

These are some comments made by Ryan Tubridy this week

1.During his sex-filled segment, Tubridy shocked listeners when he revealed his crush on busty porn star Jessica Drake.
He said: “She’s a cracking-looking bird, no doubt about it, with big tattoos on her ankles.”

2.And Tubridy said that women should get a “quality tick on your arse” to prove whether they are any good in the bedroom – with the number of ticks suggesting their number of lovers.

3.The normally straight-laced Late Late Show host admitted he likes a “certain quality” of sex when he gets down to business with his girlfriend.
Asked if he was happy with just getting some sex in his life, Tubs admitted: “I think there has to be a certain quality of product and standards kept.”

4.The RTE star was told he is welcome to visit the infamous Moonlite Bunny Ranch in Nevada by owner Dennis Hof.
Hof told the Late Late Show presenter he could offer him a Neapolitan from his menu – a romp with three different girls.
He told Tubridy: “I think you would probably like a Neapolitan. A Neapolitan is a blonde, a brunette, and a red head together.”
Tubs didn’t immediately turn down the offer from Dennis – who is famous for his own HBO show, Bunny Ranch Girls.
Instead , Ryan inquired about how much it would cost him.

5.But Tubs, who earns €495,000 a year at RTE, wanted to know what he could get if he came over with $1,000 to spend.
Dennis told him: “You would have a great time. You could have just about anything you want, anything your imagination can conjure up. That’s the beauty of it.”

Am I the only person who thinks that these comments shouldn't be made on a national platform. Tubs like to portray himself as an intellectual, the next great political conduit but he is degrading women and engaging in sexist, reactionary talk on a regular basis.

How is it sexism? It may be crude and in bad taste but I don't see where it is sexism?

He's not a priest and for 495k a year all he has to be is a good presenter.

He wants women to wear a mark which identifies whether they could satisfy him sexually as if women would have no other value but to be treated as sex objects. He refers to women as "birds". He is going to visit a brothel in Las Vegas with some of his mates from RTE for an orgy. Last year he told men to wolf-whistle at women. How is it not sexist?

He's allowed to fancy who ever he likes surely?
Or is it because she's a porn star?
Or that this is admitting he watchs porn?

2.And Tubridy said that women should get a “quality tick on your arse” to prove whether they are any good in the bedroom – with the number of ticks suggesting their number of lovers.
That does sound a little odd...

He was interviewing the man... what was he meant to do? Not ask any questions and just act horrified that in a place where prostitution is legal you can hire women to engage in sexual acts?
Should he just have spent the time acting shocked and saying he'd never do such things?

He can be an intellectual and like sex... talking about sex is not automatically degrading to women... I didn't hear the show but from what you're reporting it doesn't sound too bad...

Sounds more like him being an ass, I mean if that's all he sees woman as , i.e quality do sex ect fair enough just sounds like he's being a smug elitist about sex.

Birds thing I thought was a Dublin term and more than likely he's attempt to sound like one of the little people .

How true is that really ? Sounds like krude banter to me, who advertises a RTE orgy abroad ? Even if he was to take place it's perfectly legal over there, morality of it is questionable but not enough to say from these examples that tubridy is a sexist nor RTE.

Don't get me wrong he's an over paid ass and I'd rather not pay him anything or have him on air but I don't expect for him to behave like father tubridy just because he's on a national broadcaster .

He's an idiot and says things like that so the two old ladies who listen to him will tell their friend.

That is an outrageous thing to say! You're casting dangerous aspersions now for the sake of your cause.

Every Diet coke ad is sexist to men. But its perfectly ok because its for women entertainment. Or take magic mike, a movie about male strippers. How acceptable would it be if there was a films about female strippers and glorifying their life ? There would be up roar as its degrading to women. Sexism is only degrading, when it is degrading women

Tubridy, who is dating Aoibhinn Ni Shuilleabhain, was also told by Dennis that he could bring Montrose pals for an orgy or punishment in his dungeon.
He said: “Bring as many of your friends as you want and we’ve got a bunch of girls that will create the greatest orgy.

It is my opinion that these comments are sexist. He doesn't even refer to his female staff by their full names instead he calls them g1 and g2. John Mccririck used to be up to the same tricks before he got sacked. He never acknowledges that women should have a place in society, he just sees them as sex objects or domestic slaves.

Tubs is desperate for publicity as his radio show is going down the tubes. This sort of stuff is bound to be picked up by the tabloids, and there's no such thing as bad publicity.

Christ almighty liven up will you.

I don't particularly like Tubridy most of the time but he's re-redeemed himself with this one. Anything that riles up feminists has to be a good thing.

I'm not sure what the OP wants Ryan to have said during the interview...

"So you run a brothel do you? That's fierce evil, don't tell us ananything about it"
    "That's right, the Moonligt bu..."
"I said don't tell me about it, it's evil".
"OK... so why am I on your show?"

Honestly op you recent posting history and dislike for tubridy is quite self evident I would get over it and move on. He's an ass yes but you have a real agenda against him crap like the below is not too healthy.
The only tubbins would be poached is if an irate Late Late audience threw him into a vat of boiling water that is being used for a cookery demonstration. He would probably fit in a small pan, he is such a little weasel. The stench that would emanate from the pot would be worse than a Chernobyl. Every dripping, wet flaccid entitlement that he feels would be a mere bubble or drop mark scalded into an oven.

You'd swear Tubbs owned the f*ckin brothel.

    Give it a rest.

stating he "should" come over and you taking that as "he's going to go with a load of his RTE friends to a brothel" is slander. This is no proof behind this bar your opinion on what you believe of this presenter. If you can 100% prove this point, fine. But from what i read, all you have is heresay and you're just creating more bent truths to suit your opinion.

This thread is open for the moment but if it doesn't get constructive and continues to be a medium to bash the presenter, it will be removed

It's the 'no publicity is bad publicity' school of thought. Having said that...

Not sexist, in my view, but exceedingly crass. And any woman in a relationship with him should, unless she is a pachyderm, be seriously offended that he speaks like that.

Crude and tasteless but I can't see its sexist in definition of the word. As for that presenter and his shows - I avoid and am not therefore offended

I hate to keep agreeing with a Cork man, but I think Harry is right... When they were discussing that segment on the show, I got the impression that he was trying very hard to be flippant and say something "cool" or controversial like Gerry Ryan would.. It's particularly noticeable with Tubridy because he is normally so painfully safe and politically correct..

But if he does say something that annoys people, he'll be running for the hills, like he did the time he made that remark about Marion Bartoli.

Does he really though? Really? Does he?

Are you, in all honesty now, taking that "suggestion" seriously?

Do you really think he's dead in earnest when he says that?

He is trying to saying that his ideal woman is a blonde bimbo - with silicone breast implants, oompa loompa skin, covered in tattoos and wearing uggs. And if they don't conform to this stereotype. they won't be called a "fine looking bird,no doubt, with tattoos on her ankles." He is a nerd who couldn't handle a real woman, so he creates an some kind of freakish, sexist desire as his ideal. So many girls are already trying to fit this model, it's too much. How can mothers sit there and listen to him trying to sexualise their daughters into becoming Ms.Frankenstein?

yeah this is done, i'm far from over this topic, there is no basis behind it bar your opinion of the presenter and what you "think" he's implying in your twisted biased towards him. This thread is closed and user banned
