Hi just want to know if Giant are a good bike?

Im looking at buy this at my LBS for €549.

    http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-gb/bikes/model/2014.giant.escape.city.2/14980/66560/#specifications

Would value your opinion thanks :)

They're one of the Top brands, but your question is good for what.

I bought an Escape 2 with my Bike to work, and regretted it, not because it's a bad bike. It isn't I still use mine as my main workhorse; but because I'd blown my BTW scheme on something so whitebread.

My Escape is now something of a mutant with my secondary hobby being gradually transforming it into a touring bike.

With a bike like that bear in mind it will be great for commuting, but on rides over 40km the riding position will get pretty uncomfortable and you don't have the option of drops for getting under the wind or getting more control on descents.

Is this going to be your only bike or are you planning on getting a leisure bike too?

If you're looking for a bike in that vain for commutting/general run about reasons, it's a grand bike.

Giant are probably the biggest bike company in the world and are very, very, very good bikes and would be very reliable.

I was thinking of getting something similar for city use recently and found this on the decathlon website.

    http://www.decathlon.co.uk/mens-nework-5-id_8222609.html

Similar bike, but comes with a dynamo hub and lights (halogen front, led rear) and it's €230 cheaper at €320.

If you can get to belfast to pick one up, it's a bargain, would be a perfect workhorse.

I'm a big fan of giant bikes. New defy advanced and Tcr road bikes are as got as it gets. You get a lot of bike for your buck when you buy a giant.

I got a giant scr back when the c2w started. Its still going strong after 20,000km, and I was a big fella when I started out cycling. With panniers, it was carrying 120kg+ for a while.

As others have said, if you are planning on cycling more, or you have a long commute, get a drop bar bike. If only just for the extra hand positions it'll be worth it. Seen too many people start with the flat bar bike, then it ends up sitting in the corner a few months later as they get bitten by the bug.
