    Hi guys,

Im sure this has been discussed already but Im looking for the best value racer I can get for 1000e (CTW scheme cap)

So far thinking Cannondale Caad 8 tiagra, Trek 1.5, Specialised allez elite or maybe the laPierre audacio 400/450 http://www.cyclesuperstore.ie/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=55076

    2013/2014 models..

Basically I want a nice light bike with carbon forks and a full tiagra (or better) groupset..
Are alll these bikes more or less the same spec wise?

    Any comments/advice appreciated..

    Thanks in advance :)

For an extra €55 you get much more bike for your money.

I'm open to correction but isn't it the rebate that capped at €1,000 - not the price of the bike.

Yes that is true. You can spend whatever you want but max they will cover is the 1k.

Do chainreaction do the cycle to work scheme tho without any hassle?

Ye its up to 1,000. anything over that you can pay full price. Id rather keep my spend below 1,000 either way but if im getting a far better bike for say 55 more I can stretch to it..

The rebate is capped at 1k, your spend isn't. You pay full price on everything over 1k, so, you'd pay the full €55 excess, not the full €1055.

You can sped 5k, and still get the rebate for the first 1k.

So basically, if you're on the lower rate of tax you will pay €785 for the ridley or if on the higher rate of tax you'd pay €535.

You can spend your bike to work allowence anywhere, CRC accept the scheme, the on restriction is imposed by your employer.

From this page on the CRC page, at the bottom.
A similar scheme operates in the Republic of Ireland, please contact us at email: rtw@chainreactioncycles.com to find out more details regarding this scheme.

Oh and if the 1k limit is really set in stone, which can happen, for whatever reason,

I can't tell the difference from the specs at all but this one is only €937, so it's even cheaper, looks identical spec wise!

Never mind, it's only available in small!

I'd say hold off if you can for a couple of weeks until after the budget. The CTW scheme has been very successful and is an easy win for the government so they aren't going to cancel it, but there's a chance they might extending it as Varadkar at one point mentioned bumping the limit above 1k in order to support buying the more expensive electric bikes. Even if you don't end up spending more on the bike than 1k, it means you could use the extra discount on any of the cycling equipment that you buy.

I heard the opposite during the week and that they were going to do away with it. The HSE have stopped running it and the dept of education are hinting that they won't run it next year even if it's left by the budget.

You would wonder how any Govt Dept could possibly not run this if the Govt actually keep it. The benefits are enormous for a whole range of people and will be seen further many years down the line.

Go and see what is out there in stock in the shops in your locality. You may well spot something appealing, in your size, that is reduced due to newer models / 2014 issues oming on stream.

I doubt they will get rid of the scheme in fairness as it keeps people in jobs and business in operation in te bike industry and costs very little to run. Also considering the health benefits of the scheme for the employee
