Just re-scanned my saorsat channels today and found 2 new channels testing.

Would love to think they were TV3 and 3e but I wont hold my breath!

Found the right thread now. Can anone tell me is this still the case - are thest test carfds still there?

Also, RTE One +1 - is that still there?

Can you also confirm has the SID carrying RTE Choice been deleted completely or silent, or carrying RTE Gold - as this is what is on the webstream of RTE Choice now.

    Thanks.

Thank you. BTW does RTE One +1 carry anything during the day - a caption or something -

And, what about the RTE Choice label - is this now gone?

    Thanks.

    Nope, just EPG info.

It is - although there is a trial service in the radio section, EPG states the service is now closed.

Thanks. is there no sound on it - just EPG daa I assume?

Keep an eye on the test cards and if anything changes, please can you let me know.

I don't suppose TV3 and 3e are lined up to join Saosat are they?

    Thanks for your help.

I'll probably be beaten to it, but if not, I sure will!

    Not unless they win EuroMillions...

RTÉ One HD is launching shortly, I assume that will be one of the tests,

If they do launch this tjere will be no need to have RTE One SD anymore, given that all SaoView boxes are MPEG4. Aparently it is to be upscaled to HD for RTE One for now, not "proper HD" if you see what I mean.

The images of the test cards at the top give the impression they are MPEG4 SD test cards, not HD configured. as they are seemingly 528 x 576 - a very odd spec, not 1080i. Would I be right there?

Apparently it is 21 October, bu I was under the impression that was only on DTT. Keep an eye on it. Thanks.

There is also TG4 HD being mooted so that may be the other one.

Fair point, I would imagine that there would be a period that both SD and HD would be active though. And yes the tests are the specs that were impressed upon you :)

Haven't been keeping up with it but is it fair to say that there is never any announcements in relation to Saorsat anyway - almost like 2RN wish to keep it a seccret?

Given that RTE1 HD is "apparently" launching tomorrow, and possible TG4 HD, can anyone check to see if there is any changes on the Saosat mux on 9 East? Are the two Philips 5544 test cards still there?

What is currently on this mux - can someone give PIDs and SIDs please?

    Thanks.

I ask because I assume something may change tomorrow

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,089 ✭✭✭radiowaves

Both test cards still there. PIDs 5105 5106.

    Nothing added.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 123 ✭✭jimbo2007

Thanks for that. Do keep an eye on it and let us know if there are any chagnes. Thanks. Something MAY happen tomorrow.

Yes RTE One HD will replace the standard def version before Christmas (the HD Channel has appeared today terrestrially in addition to the SD). It's broadcast in an anamorphic output of 1440 x 1080. I wouldn't pay any attention to the test cards.

It mirrors what is happening terrestrially around Ireland except that theyare opening a second mux for that. You will see the similar moves for tg4 to HD on satellite in the new year.

I did a rescan, RTE 1 was showing as 576 but now as 1080i

Thanks. So the RTE1 on Saosat is this HD now instead of SD given the resolution change?

But the content will most likely be upscaled!

So RTÉ ONE has not changed on Saorsat yet?

I wonder if RTÉ ONE HD will be coming to Sky customers eventually?

A small inconvenience but at least the picture quality of the upscaled is vastly superior to what it replaces

I'd say RTE One HD will be on Sky at some point, but as we have seen with RTE Two HD it may not be for a while.

Let us hope over the next couple of months we'll see a complete and final line of channels with the 4 main channels RTE1 HD, RTE2 HD, TV3 HD and TG4 HD all put in place on both Saorview and Saorsat. And of course 3e on Saorsat and get us out of our misery.

I think there needs to be a certain percentage of HD content on HD channels before Sky will put them on the EPG with "HD status"

I'd expect that RTE 1 HD would appear on the Sky EPG sometime after the official launch...

Given today's announcement about RTE1 HD starting officially on Monday, please can you keep an eye on the satellite service to see if anything therer changes as well.

Is RTE1 still SD on this satellite and the test cards - anything replaced them yet?

    Thanks for this update.

Now that Oireachtas TV is on Sky on 10.743 H, and aparently on DTT on channel 17, is Oireactas TV on Saorsat yet?

As this channel only started last week, I wonder can someone check to see if there is any change and if so, please give PIDs and SID.

    Thanks

Oireachteas TV is only testing on Saorview so it could leave at any time.

It wouldn't be testing unless some agreement had been reached, there was discussion underway according to the Dáil reply
I understand that contacts between officials of the Houses of the Oireachtas and SAORVIEW management have taken place and I hope that these contacts and discussions come to an early positive conclusion.

    Obviously.

Merely pointing out that it's testing and as such can disappear at any time which usually happens with testing. In fact it happened with Oireachtas TV last week

Where do I start Oiroctas Tv (excuse spelling) is gone from saorview over cost arrangements, but are on SKY, UPC and evison. TG4 HD will stay on UPC and maybe sky tv etc. TV3 HD is coming to sky tv and UPC and perhaps evison in August 2015, no word about saorview never mind saorsat. 2rn and saorview would be better off shutting down Mux 2. The whole thing is moving very slow and I suppose money is the biggest problem.
