Best way of moving stuff to London

    Hi,

I have to move to London for a job (being moved to the HQ from Irish regional office) in January and was wondering what would be the best way to move my stuff there?

I'm not originally from Ireland and I've accumulated lots of stuff while living here for a few years. Will probably have about 5 big boxes (about 20Kg each) plus a huge suitcase cuz I have some stuff I use for my hobbies and clothes of different seasons and what not.

What would be the best and the cheapest way to move all your stuff to an apartment in London?

I'd say you'd get a better answer in the London forum.

Put everything in a backpack and take it on the plane.

There's some site where you can advertise or look for lifts, vans going one way full returning empty etc.
I'm sure something like that would work.

Having done 3 international moves my suggestion is to trim as much as you can.

Then find someone with a van/car willing to drive you over.

You would think renting a van over would be simple. Hah.

Send them over as an attachment in an email and download it all when you get to London.

    1) Sell all your stuff on eBay.
    2) Say that postage to UK is free and is £50 per item to anywhere else to attract english buyers.
    3) Sell all your stuff to english people and move to London.
    4) Wait until the exchange rate changes for the better and buy back your stuff.
    5) ???
    6) Profit.

That's a stupid idea. They would be over the size limit. OP - you want to use Google drive or DropBox for all that stuff.

You could send a pallet to the UK cheaply enough. Ring a haulage company and see what they'll charge to send a pallet to a storage place in London.

If you pay the car ferry fare plus a tank of petrol I'll drive over from the UK and bring you and your stuff back to London.

Edit: it may well work out cheaper for you to ship your stuff over though.

Stuff it all into a huge envelope, stick a 60c stamp on it and put it in the mail.

I hear we are due to have a very bad winter this year.
Lucky you OP as by January the Irish sea will be quite frozen and therefore a team of huskies should do the trick.
