I'd love to know where all the boffins went. A few years ago they were doing all this pointless research, now the scientists are doing it themselves.

    Tough times.

I love how the media sensationalise these stories sometimes. That hornet kills 40 people in Japan EVERY year and there's no word about it.

To look at detection of, and response to, secreted hormones and how this effects behavioural traits.

Very useful research and interesting concept but most of the previous posters here seem too moronic to realize that as they cant grasp science and cant see past the headline.

How's your cancer research coming? I know it must be hard to fit it in between building homes for homeless people in subsaharan Africa and your volunteer work with sick oil soaked puppies in the Arctic...

Firstly you can't draw direct comparisons between human sexual behaviour and that which occurs in animals. You can observe certain traits common to species but to justify/condemn acts in nature based on human morals is wrong.
This in particular applies to those who often argue a case for homosexuality in humans being natural based on "homosexual-type behaviour" in other species. What we do for our species is natural, no need to draw from nature to justify.

Secondly the research, while it may never have any immediate human applications, is interesting in its own right and worthy of funding. Research shouldn't solely be applied towards a certain goal (usually financially favourable), but rather there should be room for curiosity and to pursue knowledge for knowledge sake.
