Live TV coverage ..... This is not live on British Eurosport / Sky Sports. Rai and Sporza, and other European TV channels should have live coverage. I think Eurosport International will be showing it live.
Highlights on British Eurosport1 at 6.45pm, and on Sky Sports 4 at 9pm.

    Live text-ticker will be here.

    Going to be interesting

Andy Schleck says he has targeted this.....wonder how he will do
Oh and Robert Gesink has also targeted this one

Movistar with Costa , Valverde and Quintana very strong
BMC with Gilbert, Van Avermaet and TJ Van Garderen ditto
And of course Niabli , J-Rod , Uran and Sagan

Contador is leading the Saxo charge with Majka ...eemm??
Betencur and Mollema, Kwiatkowski and Froome also could do it

So that is practically everyone mentioned now ...........except who I really want to win it :D

Hopefully an Irish win but my complete outside chance would be to see something from Andy Schleck!

It's going to be interesting. A lot of riders trying to make up for disappointing seasons. I'm thinking mainly of Contador.

    Could well suit Dan Martin.

    they/them/theirs

And so on, and so on …. - Slavoj Žižek

I know this could come back to bite me but I just hope it's not embarrassing for Andy.

Would like to see Majka have a good go, he's worked hard for the team all year. I'd also like to see bridesmaid J-Rod get his win.

Anyone but Mollema and Froomey. Hope the weather's good.

Dan Martin is good odds at 18/1 and Dan Moreno at 33/1

But the two polish boys (Kwiatkowski and Majka) are very good odds at 150/1.....each way bet ?

Reports that Sagan has been dropped and is out of the race

    From cycling news:

The leaders are over the top of the first major climb of the day but the big news is that Peter Sagan has abandoned the race. Cannondale were set to ride for Ivan Basso today, with Sagan as a plan b. At least things are a little clearer for the team in terms of leadership now.

Isn't that the international version rather than british version.

Yes. Not on UK ES. International ES may be available online, otherwise its highlights on UK ES late this afternoon/early evening

Peter Sagan is joined by Andy Schleck in terms of prominent abandons so far in this year's race. Schleck came into the race having recovered from illness earlier in the week. He spoke to Cyclingnews earlier this week, stating that the Tour de France and the Classics would be his major objectives for 2014.

    Roche in the Break:

reminder of those in the break, they have roughly a minute over the peloton:

Angel Vicioso (Katusha), Diego Rosa (Androni Giacottoli), Francesco Gavazzi (Astana), Stef Clement (Belkin), Greg Van Avermaet (BMC), Alessandro Di Marchi (Cannondale), Paolo Longo Borghini (Cannondale), Juan Valencia (Colombia), Reto Hollenstein (IAM Cycling), Damiano Cunego (Lampre), Jesus Herrada (Movistar), Benat Intxausti (Movistar), Christian Meier (Orica-GreenEdge), Jan Bakelants (RadioShack), Georg Priedler (Argos-Shimano), Björn Thureau (Europcar), Cesare Benedetti (NetApp-Endura), Sergio Paulinho (Saxo-Tinkoff), Nicolas Roche (Saxo-Tinkoff), Marco Marcato (Vacansoleil-DCM) and Maurits Lammertink (Vacansoleil-DCM)

    Scarponi out

A lot of big names out now:

crash in the bunch and Nibali is one of those down. He's limping, blood on one of his legs and out of the race.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 915 ✭✭✭downwiththatsor

Roche lost a bit on the climb after his turn at the front earlier but still ahead of Contador, Martin well placed for the descent.

I think I'm going to just wait for the highlights later this evening rather than worrying about getting a decent stream!

The one person I didn't mention Voecleur !

Tommy V has 1.30 lead with 55 K to go. Wyss of IAM was chasing to join him but crashed. Pursuit not particularly animated at the moment. Time checks few and far between on coverage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,763 ✭✭✭✭Inquitus

Oh noes, we have to look at Tommy gurning for the next feck knows how long!

Zip down, tongue out - gap at 2.20 with 51.6K left

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 454 ✭✭le petit braquet

Gap now 2.55 with 46.3 left. It may not be stylish but it's effective.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 454 ✭✭le petit braquet

And Betancur is still with us!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 454 ✭✭le petit braquet

Still 2.50 ahead with 29.6km left - looking good as there still doesn't seem to be urgency in the chase.

Not a fan of Tommy, so good to see him getting reeled in and hopefully Dan's in the mix now.

No mention of Dan in the group behind unfortunately

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 915 ✭✭✭downwiththatsor

Hope so! Looked like he might have lost that on the line?

Mechanical at 200m to go seems to have taken away chance of 3rd.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 454 ✭✭le petit braquet

On the podium JRod didn't offer to shake Valverde's hand although he did shake Majka's. Eventually Valverde reached out and took JRod's hand. Then for the podium photo, when second and third step up on to the top step, he put his arm around Majka's shoulder but not Valverde's

Haven't seen any of the race but I'm delighted for majka, that's a really good result for him. Surprised at J-Rod at least not putting a brave face on for the camera. Some would say immature.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,763 ✭✭✭✭Inquitus

Pretty piss poor race on reflection, noone can live with J-Rod on the only bit of the race that matters, the last 500m of the final climb. Would not surprise me, if his luck holds and he avoids crashes, if we saw him win this on an annual basis for a few years to come unless they sort the route out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,507 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

The organisers need to change the route again. And it's on too late in the year as well.

And Eurosport should be showing this live considering it's a Monument. And their highlights package was piss poor.

    /rant over.

Well done Dan, very good result. Super impressive performance from J-Rod. Close to unbeatable on that kind of course.
