    Either.

You might get a better deal by shopping around with the defy or even looking at a 2013 model. Not sure about Halfords but they have regular sales and probably 2013 models too.

Only potential issue with the Boardman is where you buy it from. Seems it's a matter of pot luck if the store you get it from gives a good service / aftersales and if thats important to you its worth thinking about.

What one feels best when you sit on them? Some stores may allow you to test ride a defy

Second one definitely for me. I'd rather the upgraded groupset and better wheels than a fairly cheap carbon frame. Especially considering the Defy 1 frame is really quite good. Also I'd personally feel a bit more comfortable spending the money in a dedicated bike shop rather than Halfords.

I'd shop around a bit more and look at the bigger cycle shops like Eurocycles and cyclesuperstore which tend to offer better prices .

    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/battaglin-pro-team-105-2013/

Full carbon, 105 groupset, Fulcrum Racing 5 wheels, €1211

It's a Ridley Orion with 105 for €1055, and there is a few different colours to choose from, really, I can't say more than that, fecking bargain, the wheels aren't as good as the racing 5's, but the frame has a much higher pedigree and is tour proven, with the money you saved you could flog the wheels that come with the bike, add the €150 you have left from your budget and buy askiums or similar.

If I'd a grand to spend right now, I'd probably buy the orion, that bike, with new wheels, would be race ready, that said, the Battaglin is race ready as is.
