Derry really need the3pts v Shels at home. Our form has been awful since the break, but if we can't win this, then we may as well pack it in the for the season.

    Go Pats, go Derry!

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

I'll provide some help from above for Shels then :D

Seriously, I'll be on a plane to Germany at the same time the match is on ;)

Can't afford to lose in Derry, especially since their recent form, 12 losses out of 14 is it?

Can see it being a Sligo -v- Dundalk final.

  • Moderators, Regional East Moderators Posts: 23,238 Mod ✭✭✭✭GLaDOS

If Drogs ended up losing against Shams in the final you'd really have to feel for them :p

If it was a Drogheda Rovers final, it should be played in Tallaght...

A Derry and St. Pats win would be delightful.

The other semifinal is of equal importance indeed..as is the Derry v Shels game. A Drogheda v Sligo final is the worst case scenario...

Don't know if anyone is watching, but Buttimer just ruined the game. Never a red. Rash challenge, but it's a yellow.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,224 ✭✭✭✭SantryRed

Holy ****, now he has definitely ruined the game. **** me, can't believe he gave a second red.

    Outrageous scenes in Drogheda.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,754 ✭✭✭oldyouth

    IMO;

    1st one a red.

Follow up free kick was a peno for handball

2nd red a very poor decision

    Well said Stephen Kenny

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,472 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

Why couldn't he just retire like everyone said he was doing? Terrible ref.

If we beat Shams later the final would be a bit easier v Drogs though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,342 ✭✭✭✭That_Guy

Why do RTE insist on interviewing managers during a game especially moments after a contentious decision. Stupid.

What was the second red for? Only tuned in 10 mins ago

Taking a player down inside the box from behind and stopping a goal scoring opportunity. Shields did get a touch on the ball though.

There was also a covering defender. Never last man

One of the main reasons why many people stay away from the league of Ireland.
    Stupid and biased referees.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,008 ✭✭✭kksaints

Thought both were harsh enough. Especially the 2nd one.

Thought Kenny described the referee well when he said that he always wants to be the centre of attention. He'll probably regret saying that he should take the team home at half time though.

Funnily enough Dundalk are playing a good bit better than when they had 11 on the pitch, they just need end product and someone that can get into the vacant forward positions!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,224 ✭✭✭✭SantryRed

    God, I can't stand Richardson.

To be fair, what do you expect? He's angry and RTE decide to interview him in the heat of the moment. I'm surprised he didn't call him a c**t.

who the **** did drogheda pay to get to the final?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,721 Mod ✭✭✭✭dfx-

Buttimer must have the record for red cards this season and presumably not far off any season. At least twice he has had a side down to 9 men.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 435 ✭✭itac

If Dundalk hold this to 1-0 I'll be impressed. If they somehow draw I'll be even more impressed! If you didn't know who was who, you'd think Drogs were the team with players down the way they're playing now.

Totally agree. I kind of winced when I heard that they were going to speak to him. Something was bound to be said.

Strange how it's allowed to happen here but it obviously makes good tv for RTE and LOI cannot turn down any publicity that comes from it but it certainly is strange.

Dundalk are giving it everything here.

Fair play to Dundalk! But drogs are a poor outfit ...

"That's Drogheda's first yellow card which is testament to Dundalk's performance"

    Richardson is a clown.

Shams or Sligo will destroy Drogheda in the final.

  • Moderators, Regional North East Moderators Posts: 12,739 Mod ✭✭✭✭cournioni

Congrats to Drogheda, but let's be honest the better team lost. Drogheda didn't do anything with extra two men on the pitch. Shame the team that gave everything didn't make it through. All down to the ref I'm afraid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,008 ✭✭✭kksaints

Drogs are a dour, dour team. Dundalk were somewhat unlucky.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,721 Mod ✭✭✭✭dfx-

First is a red card, second one is just Buttimer making it up as he goes along...again.

So Drogheda to lose to a Rovers team for the third time in a cup final this season! Some great saves from Cherrie and Schl..Sligger..... the Drogheda keeper in the last few minutes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,063 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

No matter what kind of decisions a referee make the RTE policy is to find a way to agree with those decisions.
Cowardly lot they are at RTE.

The first one was debatable, I'd lean towards a yellow card, but it was a very harsh red, the second one wasn't even a foul, and if it was a foul it certainly wasn't a sending off...the ref destroyed what should have been a great occasion for both clubs...sadly having seen the same ref in action over the years I'm not remotely surprised

My sympathies to Dundalk it is not nice to lose a big game in that fashion...
