My housemate says...

My housemate says I'm a dirty c*** because sometimes I shower in the evening instead of the morning. He thinks I should re-shower after all I've done is sleep. Am I a filthy individual or is he just strange?

No, you're a disgusting individual who will die alone in your **** encrusted blankie

As long as you shower once a day I don't see any issue.

Me, I have to shower in the morning. I don't really wake up otherwise.

Get up early tomorrow morning , have a shower and use up all the hot water on the moanie f@%^!!
That will keep him quiet. Either that or smear excrement in his room !!

Either one of the above options should work.

I always shower at night, after I come back from a run. Can't see the difference in showering 8 hours earlier or later. Your housemate is just a bit weird.

If I've been training in the evening and have a shower afterwards then I'll skip my morning shower. I much prefer a morning shower though, I just don't feel clean going out in the morning without a shower.

You're walking around all day covered in Funk.
    It's the Funk.

When I was wee we only had a bath once a week, and I turned out OK.

I almost always shower in the evening, I have very thick hair and I don't like to blow dry it so it needs about 3 hours to dry completely. I don't know what kind of level of sweating people do while they sleep or how dirty their bedclothes are but if I shower before bed I wake up feeling just as fresh and clean. Unless it's those horrible humid summer days, then I shower in the morning (hair dries in about 30 mins then), even with just a sheet it's disgustingly warm to try and sleep, can feel my hair sticking to me while I lie there, ugh.

Does he shower morning and evening? Cause otherwise you're both showering once every 24 hours, just at different times, and I don't really see his point?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 2,159 Mod ✭✭✭✭Oink

Personally I think going to bed without a shower after a full day is gross.

Also, considering the amount of sweat that comes out of you when you sleep, I would feel a bit rude leaving the house without a shower in the morning. But that's just me. Now if you're one of those people who are too cool to sweat, and dirt doesn't stick to you, well... I'm happy for you...

No shower before bed = stinking bed surely?

I cant see any problem with evening showers. Actually wouldnt it be cheaper than using electricity in the morning? I dont fully understand electricity bills tho :-\

    Unscrew the shower head
Put in an oxtail cube in shower head
    Replace shower head
    Now who's the dirty bastard?

I said that to my OH there last night and she freaked.

A bath every Sunday night and watch a bit of ER after, life was good :D

I can only sleep when I'm cold. Light duvet, fan pointed at me etc... so I don't sweat in my bed (unless there's someone else sharing it.....).

I exercise in the evening so I normally shower in the evening. Twice a day is a bit overkill, I'm not a swamp monster

Tin bath in the living room, watching Dallas and scrubbing at the same time. :D

    Simple times.

You're not meant to shower twice a day (even every day can do this), it can result in very dry skin, skin conditions, greasy hair, etc.

Most people have electric showers nowadays.

Personally, I shower in the morning time. If I went to work without a shower, I would be uncomfortable for the day.

Once in Ontario a man asked me if we had central heating in Ireland. I told him that no, we just snuggled closer to the donkey when we got cold. I think he really believed me.

I can believe it. People in the US have asked me if we have summer where I live or if it snows all the time because it is Canada.

    Have it for centuries.

Spring wells that ran dry a few months of the year were also a thing though, until the mains pisswater came along.

At least you shower once a day so who cares when you do it.

Once every two days is often sufficient. I'm also a fan of showering in the evening, especially if you have been playing sport of something and have a shower after that, I sure am not getting up and having another one in the morning.

These threads pop up quite regularly and show that some people are absolutely obsessed with showers, they just don't understand that having a shower in the evening rather than the morning or having a day with no shower does not mean people smell etc, its a total fallacy.

Yeah when I told people I lived in Canada and loved the summers but hated the winters many refused to believe me when I said it was 30+ degrees for about 3 months. Canada only has Winter Snow and Summer Snow it seems :P

Anyway, back to crazy over showering people :D

London this July, I'd often have a shower in the morning and then coming home later... it was that hot and the grime gets everywhere.

I have a mate who stays sometimes and doesn't use deodrant and doesn't shower every day. I hadn't noticed it until the missus pointed it out. Now she wants me to mention it to him gently when he's next over. That could be awkward...

It get up as high as 42 Celsius this past summer. I took a LOT of showers.

I shower in the evenings, i like relaxing after a shower instead of going out to work.

During the heatwave we had in the summer i was showing 2/3 times every day, it was ridiculous :)

Not a fan of the electric showers myself. I like good water pressure, so have power(pumped) showers in the house. There's advantages and disadvantages to both though of course.

Note that for hundreds of years this was not the norm in society.

Indeed, for many thousands of people in Ireland today, they have never had a shower.

And for many thousands more, it's maybe weekly.

I prefer to shower in the morning because it wakes me up and sets me up for the day, but if I've been exercising the night before, I'll shower then and skip it in the morning. Nothing wrong with missing a day either, not going to make a difference, unless you've been exercising or sweating for whatever reason. I have noticed though that the people who often say to me that they only shower when they need to, or every 3/4 days, do quite often have a bit of an offputting waft about them, I'm too polite to point that out though.

I used to shower before work and be a sweaty mess by the time I got to work, ugh. My nickname was The Hot Irish, but the hot referred to the fact that I couldn't cope with the heat and our non working a/c, not my good looks :D

In average Irish weather showering every day/every morning isn't necessary for many people, who aren't exerting themselves much during the day...or the night.

I regularly shower twice a day...

Once every morning, and again in the evening if I've been playing sport or gone to the gym.

I'd feel like crap if I went to work without a shower.

Well if you hadn't noticed it is there an actual smell or no?

Bringing it up if there's no smell off him or the room he's staying in would be quite prudish.

If there is an 'oul shtink of him then I understand. In that case try to subtly leave some clean towels in his room (hint hint) and hope he picks up on it.

I can think of few things more awkward. Me bollix would I be saying that to someone just because they smelled a bit.

am I the only one who actually likes the smell of skin and fresh sweat? I don't mean after exertion, just the slightly salty hint of warm skin. It can be really cosy, like a child's favourite blanket. Or really exciting.

Yeah, I'm in Western Australia and pretty much most of January was 40+. I live in a house with no air-con so I could probably have 10 cold showers at the weekend.

I'm on a 'night' electricity plan with Bord Gais, I don't know how or why I'm on this plan to be honest but I know that my night electricity is 8 cent per Kw and my day rate is 17 cent per Kw.

I enquired about going on a 24 hour rate last week and was told it would work out at 16 cent per Kw so I told them to go **** themselves and they could shove their **** 24 hour rate up their smelly ****ing Nazi **** holes, **** you Bord Gias, **** YOU!!!

I shower every morning before work, but once a week I have a lovely bath in the evening and skip the shower the next morning. Each to their own, as long as you clean yourself who cares when you do it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,370 ✭✭✭✭GreeBo

Morning shower when I get out of bed 99% of the time.
If play sports at night I will shower after, but will also shower in the morning.

sure it averages out to 1 shower every 24 hours, so you are not going to totally stink; but think about it.
With nighttime shower you are at your smelliest when you are surrounded by most people, with morning shower you are at your smelliest when you are asleep....there *is* a difference.

Unless your a hooker in which case you should shower every hour.

I hate climbing into bed with the dirt of the day on me, makes more sense to shower at night before bed.

You're in contact with filth all day, you sweat in your clothes, go to the toilet numerous times. Makes more sense to shower at the end of the day than at the start. Slip into clean sheets in the nip and you're set for the following day.
