hi im living in carlow town, my local texaco is closing and being taken over by applegreen, whats the fuel like from this crowd.

I found texaco great for the car so panicing at mo, dont use anyone else in town as found texaco fuel best for car, mainly cos of the techron additive.

would topaz/maxol/esso be better to use than applegreen fuels? thanks for your time

Unless your driving something seriously high end or are overly concerned about MPG, its all the very same stuff at the end of the day.

Personally, I would avoid Applegreen petrol and start using Topaz or Maxol.

in your opionion, but imo i filled up elsewhere just to try, thinking the same as yourself, cant remember the name of garage, but found car ran terrible after it. dont want that to happen again, cant afford any engine issues

All the same 95ron crap. Just go to whichever is closest.

If i was you (and I'm not), I'd get the ferry over to England and top up on some fine Shell V-Power 99ron.

    Mmmmm that sweet goodness. :)

Please elaborate on your reasoning for this. Is it the company or quality of petrol you don't like?

Because I trust neither them nor their additive package, and it is not necessary for me to use them given the plentiness of known good branded forecourts around here.

If a car runs noticeably terrible after filling up from a garage then its more likely to be down to that station selling bad petrol rather than the brand itself imo. I usually get petrol from a variety of the big brands and have rarely noticed much (if any) of a difference between them.

A little of topic ,but this remind me of my farther in law who as sadly passed away now.
Was with him one day at petrol station, same one he uses all the time,
4 pumps ,only one car in p/station at one pump ,he Parks up behind this car and waits,
"why don't you go to one of the free pumps"
"No, i always use this pump the petrols better at this one "
and no i didn't bother, still gives me a chuckle today.

I filled up at an Esso station one time and I had terrible performance. I blamed the petrol and suspected I got dodgy fuel. The problem was eventually diagnosed as a faulty airflow meter which was replaced under warranty even though the warranty on the car had expired. Dealer said airflow meter should not fail in a four year old car.
Since then I try not to jump to quick assumptions although it can be hard not to sometimes.

@cerco, fair enough but explain how it ran terrible when i had that other petrol, but when i ran that down and went back to the techron the car went back to its good preformance

I tend to avoid applegreen myself. I always thought the car never ran as well or returned as good mpg on there diesel as other brands

i run esso most of the time, topaz the odd time.

I find the esso i use excellent, probably because it is a high volume station that gets deliveries multiple times per week and always has fresh petrol, and it has the cheapest prices in my area.

I also get 4c off per litre with the fuel card form my credit union :) so with the discount i'm paying sub 150/l

I have a Topaz Park or Play card and get all my petrol from one particular pump at one garage. No, I haven't won anything, yet...
    *mr routine* :D

All petrol / diesel is identical except some add in an additive that has yet to be proven by anoy of them makes your car run better.

Refineries refine petrol / diesel to an international standard and it then put into differ huge tanks at ports. Some tanks are owned by Esso, some by topaz and some by applegreen etc. Each tank has the EXACT same product in it. ZERO difference except for the additive which frankly does nothing to the car despite claims.

As for the "dirty petrol" claims that are seen every now and then - google it and research it before blaming a garage / brand - dirt deposit build up over time (that why domestic oil tanks are always at an angle away from the fuel outlet and the fuel outlet is about 3 inches from the base.)

To keep the tank clean, run the tank near to empty as often as possible and fill with a decent fill (I always go 40/50 litres and let it get near empty before refilling. This way deposits which are in EVERY fuel won't build up.

I use applegreen all the time. I run two petrol cars and find absolutely no difference between brands - as far as mpg or running standards in either car. Ok, given Mrs cadaliac's 206 doesn't cover much mileage, but I have taken notice of mpg differences in different local garages and they all pretty much even out.
One local garage was always cheaper (by up to 4c per L) but I thought you didn't get as much fuel and put it down to him adjusting the pump clocks slightly. I could be totally wrong of course because I didn't measure the litres used, I just measured how much the working week cost (to fuel the car) at different times.

Your tank will be spotless but what about your fuel injectors?
