I was due to join Castleknock with a buddy of mine, but he has backed out on me.

Don't fancy going it alone especially over the winter months, so was wondering if anyone else was interested in joining or is already a member?

Thursday winter league starting soon for 5 days, so was thinking of playing before work if someone fancied setting up something regular

I'm a 5 day member at Cknock , but unfortunately have 3 mates I play in a regular 4 ball with.
But when I joined couple years ago I knew nobody - just started putting my name down with different lads and meeting them on the 1st tee -
Can honestly say I've met some really good friends now , so don't let the fact that your on your own ,put you off joining.
It's a friendly club and great course so you'll soon hook up with a couple of lads to play regularly with.

I'm toying with the idea of joining as a 5 day member next year mainly to maintain handicap and as a means of playing 9 holes/practice of a summer's evening. Probably won't get much chance to play much if any midweek competitions with work and generally play a good few scratch cups on the weekends so the 5 day option would suit given it's flexibility and value.

As a member can I ask how busy does the course get of a summers evening from 18:00? Is it relatively easy to get out for a few holes practice and does this require religious reviews and time sheet bookings to gain a slot?
Also with the 5 day membership option is there flexibility to use your credits to play weekend golf even if not in competition (especially during the winter months where scratch cups are non existent and a lack of day light prevents evening practice sessions)?

Actually I was in there the other day and asked a lot of questions. They don't have a membership based on calendar year, so if you join today, you join for a year from today.

I'm pretty much after what you are in so far as the option to play 9 holes practice in summer evenings, but I did ask about weekends also. Yes you can use them, but the amount of credits will be whatever the rate on the day is. So if its €60 for a game it will be 60 credits, as opposed to midweek where if it's €40 it will only be 20 credits

To be honest, i cant give you too much hands on experience of evening golf as the vast majority of my rounds would be morning tee offs.
but in nearly 3 years ive never heard anybody grumbling about not being able to get on the timesheet.
As previously stated the credits can be used on weekends but for a 5 day member the charge is (on the day) which basically means 45 credits on a saturday and 40 on a sunday.
But note that as a 5 day member you are not eligible to enter cups/medal comps that take place at the weekend.
    Only 5 day midweek competitions.
Hope thats of help to you.
