Can anyone tell me, i'm looking to buy a boxset of the tv show The Killing.

I know there is the original version, The Danish version.

    Theres also an American version.

Can anyone advise on which is the better of the two?

If you're able to sit through subtitles give the original a go.

Watched the Danish version, really loved the dark gritty way it was made. Subtitles didn't distract at all.

    Danish.

Haven't seen the Danish version but the American version is awful. Not so much gritty and dark as dismal and dreary. Very slow moving and the actress who played the female detective did my head in with her miserable face.

    Go for the Danish version.

Watched season 1 of the Danish version and thought it was brilliant. It's also on Netflix, so that should work out cheaper than a boxset (if you binge-watch it like I did!).

Both versions are on Netflix. And the American version really isn't anywhere near as bad as some make out.

Have the boxset (1-3) of the original.

I cannot understand why people watch American re-makes. Especially when they've heard how brilliant the original is.

    Although Homeland's not bad.

Have The Killing theme as my ring tone !!

I wasn't aware of the Danish version before I started watching the American version but still enjoyed it (the American version that is)

A few people were pissed at the ending and the pacing but it didn't bother me too much.

    Stick with Denmark, imo.

To elaborate a little on this, if people want to watch the US one I say go for it, but just ignore the internet reaction/wiki/reviews around season 1 specifically until you've sat through it. The 3 seasons may not be as bad as made out - but as a show it has its share of creative problems and is overall a mixed bag.
