new timer on oil boiler, now boiler acting up

    Hi
My APT timer needed swapping as it just wasn't working when the the timer mode was set.
The boiler was working when i had it set to 'ON'

So today i swapped out the timer and all seemed good, i could hear the slight ticking noise coming from the timer. I set it to the current time (3pm) and had it timed to come on at 4pm, I checked boiler at 5pm and timer had turned to 5pm - pilot light was on BUT the boiler was not firing at all but the casing was luke warm - indicating that it did fire up at some time between 4 and 5pm but then shut off.

Question, is this coincidental that the day i swap out the timer that the boiler starts acting up (boiler was only serviced two weeks ago) OR could there be an electrical issue,
i am not sure to call boiler man or sparky ;-/

    appreciate any info or suggestions,
    Thanks
    T

How is the pump wired into the system ?

    Hi Billy,

Good Question, to be honest I am not sure,
My thinking was to replace the timer with identical one so the electrics should be ok,
If wiring was an issue could it be possible that the boiler would act up when the timer is set to 'Timer' mode rather than the constant 'On' mode on the timer?

    cheers
    T

You need to do some basic electrical tests with a multimeter at the clock, boiler thermostat & the pump.
You need to know if you are getting full 230v as if you has a broken or loose connected neutral at the clock, this would result insufficient voltage at the boiler.

By testing all with the correct equipment you can easily narrow down whether it's a clock issue or a boiler issue.
