Hi Folks, So I have a few days holidays coming up that I need to take before mid november so may as well make the best of it before winter truly takes hold! Just wondering have any of you ever taken the car and bike over to any of the trail centres in the uk. Wales preferrably, less driving!! I would be looking to stay two maybe three nights in an area. Need to be a quick turnaround as I still have to work 2 of the 5 days most weeks:rolleyes:

Anyone have much experience of this or have any advice? Sorry if I'm being a bit vague, idea just popped into my head!

Myself and 2 mates did Llandegla, Coed y Brenin and Penmachno over a long weekend last year. First one was done on the way to Betws y Coed after getting off the boat. Betws is a good central base. The first 2 are proper trail centres with shops, cafes ect. All deadly.

Would a hardtail with 100mm travel do on those trail centres or would you need 120mm plus and or full sus?

Road tripped from Kerry to Glentress in Scotland during the summer, well worth it. Trail and trail center were out of this world, puts anything here in Ireland to shame. We camped in the Wigwams (50 meters from the trail center) so it was mountain biking all day then down to the local town (Peebles) for grub and a few scoops and back up to the Wigwam for a few cans and auld chat around the pit fire! What more could ya ask for?
Great buzz around the place as well, boys in the shop are great and we got to know a big group of other lads on a trip too. Highly recommend!

I got away with 120 fork on a hardtail just fine. Most of the bikes that I saw being used were hardtail. 100 should be okay if your skill are good but I think 120 is more suitable for some of the descents.
