Is this really anyone's business considering her family are still coming to terms with their loss, regardless of the causes.

Well we talk about the Washington shootings or the Boston bombing.

That said - pills, not the most regulated of industries.

Yes it is, considering if it was to do with bad pills, the warning needs to get out there ASAP.

    I agree with that.

But why personalise it by bringing in the circumstances surrounding the death of an individual?

Put the warning out there by all means but leave the girl in question out of it for now.

It's hilarious, really. These days, we don't say "don't do drugs" anymore; we just warn people when a bad batch is released. If you take pills and croak it, you won't get much sympathy from me. I'd feel more sorry for the other passengers on the bus, not to mention the driver. How did they feel after that girl died? How did the driver feel?

probably best to wait for post mortem and Garda investigation so the warning can be accurate and directed at the right drug and drug-takers.

Yeah, because just saying "don't take drugs" worked and saved lives

Yeah because EVERYONE who indulges in recreational drugs from time to time is an out and out monster.

Get a grip, I'd bet my house on you knowing people who take drugs whilst your none the wiser to it.

    Something like this you mean

"Apparently a person died. possibly linked to a bad batch of pills? anyone know any more on this? "

a bad "batch" wouldnt just effect one person, a batch is comprised of thousands. any reports of anyone one else taking ill?

There's a bad batch going around England at the mo according to one of their radio stations so I imagine some of the same batch made its way here.

If these things were legal and regulated you wouldn't have this kind of thing. Irresponsible governments just can't ease up trying to control people in areas where personal liberty should be the final word, like the use of recreational drugs by responsible adults.

It's a recreational choice. There's risk involved and they should know it. To be honest, as a country, if we've gotten as far as warning people about bad batches, we may as well just legalise drugs because at least then advice about bad batches sounds credible. The level of criminality we attach to drugs in Ireland at the moment makes any advice about bad batches just sound crass and hypocritical.

    Obvious grammar nazi bait here.

But anyway, I'm pretty sure I know most of my friends who take drugs. I don't have my head in the sand. They don't exactly keep it a secret, either. And what has me knowing about my friends taking drugs to do with this girl who (possibly) OD'd on a bus? I never said drug takers are monsters. I merely said that if you suffer some consequences to drug use, I won't give you any sympathy. They're endangering their lives for a bit of craic.

At risk of sounding a little bit "it was better in my day", I just think that the quality of drugs (in Ireland) has probably deteriorated in the last number of years. Coke was the biggest one to be stepped on too much; I'm sure hash and weed and E has seen better days, too. Not surprised we're seeing more of this 'bad batch' garbage. Like I said above, Ireland may as well legalise it if we're going to be throwing out tidbits of advice like this. As it is, it sounds like a teetotaler giving an alcoholic advice about what not to drink...

Now you're talking, and before you ask, I'm a 38 yo parent of 2 teenagers and live 20 mins from Carrick

I know of this girl and family. And if they read this it would be deeply upsetting. A lot of rumors floating around our town but it seems she was on the bus alone, fell asleep and choked on her vomit.

The whole thread is based on unfounded speculation and rumour which is entirely unfair on this girl and her family.

A person has passed away, no foul play suspected. We don't need a thread on it.
