Why do you never hear anyone pontificating about how much they like or dislike Elton John? One of the most popular and influential contemporary artistes worldwide, and also one of the most meh!

Personally, I think he is a fcuking legend

I saw a duet of him with Billy Joel once singing The Piano Man.

    It was amazing.

I think if he wrote his own songs he might be regarded better but generally he just writes the music to go with the Lyric Taupin writes for him.

Liked him since I first heard Crocadile Rock but I think he made a tit of himself with the fawning tribute to whasshername.

I love three of his songs (Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Benny And The Jets and Rocket Man). I'm indifferent to the rest.

He's a touching throwback to a time when ugly, fat people in drag could be superstars.

Probably because while he still releases new material that seems to sell reasonably well he hasn't had a hit single in what, 12 years? Whereas, say, U2 have been releasing substandard material for 20 years now.

And I think even that was a re release of a largely forgotten old single from years back.

His shows sell out in minutes so yes, he clearly has a lot of fans and not many detractors. I'd imagine the stories are true and he can be an awful drama queen bollocks but he has some great tunes.

He's divorcing the husband I hear.

Caught him having sex behind his back.

A man totally removed from the real world, the true epitome of a Diva. That's all right and he's entitled to be that way, each to his own and all that. However, I saw a documentary where a female paparazzi was following him around and he bawled at her that he hoped she got cancer of the clitoris.

Lost any sort of respect or interest in him after that.

He's intending to work with Mark Knopfler and Chris Rea in 2014.

So we will be hearing a lot more of Eltons Dire Rea in the future.

Probably because of his stupid, pointless, bloody name.

    Elton John's hair?

    A. Animal.

    B. Mineral.

    C. Vegetable.

Why didn't Elton John eat his lettuce?

    Because he's a rocket man.

Elton John , one of the best music writers of the modern era and a great performer.
He wrote music for years in ' tin pan alley ' for music publishers before he met Bernie Taupin.

He was from around my area and wet to the local school ( Pinner Grammar ) ... useless fact number 136 :)

He's going to get his ass shot or arrested if he goes on his Russia propaganda tour.

A man who thinks it's ok to purchase a baby from Russians at the age of 70 and raise it without its mother. He's a disgusting human being. This picture made me nauseous when it came out a couple of years ago

Pensioners being given babies because they have money when healthy young couples have an absolute mare trying to adopt

    Now that I agree with.

Edited to say I agree with you, not with pensioners buying babies!

A pop singer can influence music too. However Elton John I don't believe has influenced anybody musically that I can think of. He is so middle of the road musically and his singing ability is technically good but not exactly exciting.

He makes his money off the musicals mostly now. I hate "Crocodile Rock" it is so boring, all the excitement of the 50s rock and roll removed and then copied.

Can't really knock him as a talented musician / singer songwriter, a crashing bore in all other aspects of his persona.
