    They just hadn't enough guns......

TBH this has nothing to do with school/naval yard shootings/background checks. Let's not make it ANOTHER one of those threads.

So a man defends himself from home invaders, and people are already turning it into an anti-gun debate:confused:

Was someone recently spinning a stat about a gun in the home is more likely to end up harming a family member than a stranger? Seems only one random stranger was killed in this dispute.

    Talk amongst yourselves.

This isn't a case of guns being in the house killing people. In this instance the gun in the house saved one person.

I feel terrible for the father in this, he's just lost his whole family in one day, including unwittingly killing his daughter.

Wow, soon it's the last Breaking Bad episode. Sooo looking forward to it.
Btw, it's getting chilly now isn't it. Time to switch the old oil burner on again. Hope it'll stay above zero this winter.

The only difference banning guns in America would've made here would be that there'd be one extra innocent person dead.

If there were less guns then this would just happen more often.

    Don't you people understand?

This is clearly a case of where having a gun saved innocent lives.

And including all other cases, there would be thousands of innocent people still alive.

Tbh, I don't think guns were the issue here, I've no doubt the pycho daughter would have used any sort of weapon to murder her family if she didn't have access to firearms.

She was intent on committing a criminal act. I agree that she would have gotten some form of weapon somewhere.

The girl's father having a gun here is definitely an issue though because if he didn't have one, he'd be dead right now.

He wasn't exactly a random stranger. In fact, he was their son/brother-in-law, even if they didn't know it.

So she would have gotten as far as maybe stabbing the mother, everyone else would still be alive.

And if she and her husband didn't have guns, everyone might be just bruised and battered but still alive.

This situation was a no win for anyone, I doubt the father is thinking thank god I had a gun, I'd imagine he is thinking "wtf, I just lost my entire family in seconds".

We can't know that for certain. If the assailants both had knives instead of guns, he'd have probably shot them anyway as they were masked intruders in his house.

I'd imagine he thought thank fcuk I had a gun at first. Yeah, it would be a hell of a shock to see who the attackers were. Still and all, I reckon he was happy he had a gun and that it wasn't him dead on the floor.

    True, we will never know.

And I will agree the fact he had a gun did save his life without any shadow of a doubt.

I would also surmise that the type and caliber of all weapons involved just goes to show that they were more than adequate for the purposes they were used for. I'm not here to start another gun debate, I've been down that road countless times. The guns involved were fatal and not very high powered, this crime could easily have happened in any country in the world regardless of its gun laws.

I think the point of the argument is that no one would have them?

I dont think I'd try breaking into someones house if all I had was a knife...would you? Good way to get your head blown off by the cops.

How do we go about replacing all the guns in the US with flatware?

It is in the Constitution. Shooting is good. Just remember to call it self-defence. If you are the only one left standing that is what you say.

You have cops at your home 24/7?

Its a knife fight, its going to last a lot longer than a shotgun fight also its the US, cops are there asap.

I got them out within 5 mins before because we reported seeing someone in a car lot at night.

In any case, if you only have a knife to arm yourself with, you probably dont do these sorts of stupid things, from behind a gun you think you are invincible (if you are a nut job)

There would have been a police investigation including pathology and ballistic analyses, so if he were lying, it would have to be a very good story.

If you are accusing the father in the OP of lying, I assume you have evidence?

What else would you call this case if you don't call it self-defence?
