I have an interview tomorrow and was told to put together a presentation on any topic, must be 10 mins long! I have been really busy in my own job so am wondering if I am doing the right thing with what I have planned, the job is a soft sales role, mostly educational dealing with medical products. I have a presentation ready on performing the heimlich manoeuvre and am now wondering at this late stage if it is the right way to go? It is 10 mins long and is teaching a new skill but if anyone can think of anything else or give any advice for this type of scenario I would be very grateful!

Without the details, my own intuition would be to present on something that involves 'selling' an idea, product, technology, person, etc.

I imagine that part of the reason for the presentation is to gauge your presentation skills, but part of it is whether you can persuade and convince i.e. sell. Doing a presentation on the topic you proposed maybe a bit constraining since it is technical and does not involve a lot of convincing

My advice would be to do a presentation on a product that you are familiar with. For example, you could do something like the IPhone, or a comparison of iphones. Alternatively you could do a presentation on a medical product (vitamins, e-cigarettes). The key is to emphasize the benefits of that product.

I agree with previous poster and to add to it in this way. Look at the company and role you are applying for and tailor something that addesses a problem or issue for them. It could also be an opportunity in the market place.

Common frameworks to use include gap analysis, SWOT, market insights (market share, growth, competitor analysis), the 5 Ps (product, price, place, promotion and packaging).

Don't forget to include a slide at the end on yourself. Use this to show that you have a personality and an interest in extra curricular activities.

    Best of luck with it.

Thank you both, panic stations now! The agency said to do a presentation about myself but I felt a bit silly doing a 10 min powerpoint on me, so I will look at a business presentation using a SWOT analysis. Will have to try and get an hour in the morning to put it together. Appreciate the replies :)

It went well I think, good rapport and we chatted and laughed a lot which I hope is a good sign. I actually went with my original presentation and they got really involved in it and said at the end that they would now know what to do, I tried to do the SWOT analysis but did not have enough time to do it justice. Thanks for asking though, I am hopeful of getting through to round 2.
