Asbestos Removal

    Hello everyone.

We recently had asbestos ceiling panels removed and disposed of in the proper manner from a house we bought in Dublin. We are completely gutting the house, reflooring everywhere and dumping all the old furniture and carpets etc.

Should we have a survey done to test whether there are any asbestos fibres present in the air? Or is this very unlikely given that almost everything will be changed during the renovation?

    Thanks,

    C

    Hi

Please don't take any chances. I was on a site in England were asbestos was found.

It's a very strict process. Seek out professional opinions.

    Take no chances with this.

This topic of asbestos removal is very important. A huge number of houses built in the 50's and 60's have asbestos roofs. I have seen dozens of these houses being renovated and the asbestos slates being broken up and thrown in a skip. I have spoken to the authorities about it but nobody cares or wants to do anything about it. The trouble with asbestos is that the damage it causes to our health will not be seen for several years. Unfortunately in Ireland, people who advocate proper removal are seen as cranks.

What colour was the asbestos? The gray one is not that harmful at all. The gray one can easily removed from the lungs. However the blue is seriously damaging to your health. But it's rarely found in Ireland. I imagine you had the grey in your house.

Jesus, don't be going around saying things like that unless you can show a source for such a claim.

Asbestos - err on the side of caution. it's lethal stuff.

plenty firms do asbestos reports. best to get one and take heed of it.
