Hi everybody , its time for a change.
I just got rid of my renault megane , and dont know wheather to go for a cordoba or a polo , both 1.4tdi . The boot space in the cordoba is a big plus for me with a young daughter . But the engine is supposedly noisy on long journeys .

    Any advice?

They are the same car with different badges.

You could also cobsider the the Skoda fabia 1.4tdi.
Again... The same car as the cordoba / polo.

The boot might be bigger in the Cordoba, but the hatch makes for better access - if I recall correctly the boot on the Cordoba is narrow.

VW probably has better quality finish and will be easier to sell on the back end.

    You should also consider Yaris/Corolla 1.4 D4D.

The Yaris in particular is one of the most versatile cars I have ever had.

The engine in both the yaris and the corolla is far more refined than the 1.4tdi vag unit. However I think a Toyota will cost more to buy though.

    Had a Cordoba 1.4tdi sport.
    Couldnt fault it.
Driving within the law it is quite enough on a run.
Push it on and it does get a little loud.
    Very economical.

    Boot hold's 2 adults comfortably. :D

Presume both adults alive and voluntarily in boot.

    Otherwise suggest you contact solicitor.

Thanks for the replys :) , i have test drove the cordoba i found it lovely to drive but noisy as i have only ever had petrol cars . i am going to test drive a polo saterday maybe .

The boot in the cordoba is huge , much bigger than in my last 2004 megane . Which is a big plus ,not that i want to stick my friends in my boot or anything haha :D .

I am just unsure about the noise from the cordoba .I had a 01 1ltr petol polo before and loved it, but i needed the bigger boot so i changed to the megane.

What to do , what to do hmm

A diesel will always be a bit louder than a petrol. You will get use to it after a short while

Yes but the 1.4 tdi is a 3cylinder unit so it's a good bit more noisy than similar powered engines.

AHHH , thanks for your help guys , i suppose all i can do is wait to test drive the polo and see what i think . Im going to bring my buggy along and see can i squish it in the boot :D:D

Take it for a run on the motorway and see how you feel about it.
The day I picked up mine I changed from a petrol 1.8 zetec mondeo.
I thought to myself. "What am I after buying"?

After a week I thought the fuel gauge was broken as it hardly moved. Unlike the mondeo I changed from,
Around the same time the noise level seemed to fade away.:)

You will get used to it and take no notice of it.

    BTW.
It was the sport I had.
I know not much of a difference but it was the 80bhp version as against 70bhp in the normal one. Apparently it does make a difference.

    Thanks Vectra :) ,
My mind is made up , im going to go for the Cordoba , its more practical for me . My megane drank petrol like it was going out of fashion so im very excited to finally get onto the diesel band wagon :D .

i think the one i like is the sports model too. And not much of a change in my car insurance so woowoo :)

Yes it is, I actually heard one go down the road the other day and he put the foot down a bit and my God, it was noisy, it reminded me of the noise of a hole in the exhaust or something ? but all I could think is, thank God that's not me driving it !

And no it had not got a hole in the exhaust. It did sound very rough.

    The thing is,
When driving them it is not that bad. It appears to be worse on the outside.
