Hi all, just looking for some help. I am currently shopping around for a new road/racing bicycle. My budget is around 700 euro. I am only a novice so looking for an entry level bike. Came across the defy 5 in my local bike store priced at 650 and then doing some research online came across the focus 2.0 reduced from 1,00 to 669. Which would be a better buy? Or can anyone else suggest a better purchase at my budget? Thanks in advance.

The Variado has a good spec, but I guess the bike you are looking at is about 2 years old. The geometry is a bit sporty. That said, I bought mine secondhand, it was my first "racer" and I'm getting on grand with it - the cheaper "Tiagra" 1 model

You won't go too far wrong with a Giant Defy. But don't buy that one - spend a few quid extra and get the Defy 3. Cheaper models have silly buttons on the brake levers for changing gears and these are not as good at the combined efforts that are on the Defy 3 which has 9-speed Sora. You might also find the Defy a bit more comfortable than the Variado.

Alternatively, if you want to take a trip to Belfast, you could get yourself a B'TWIN Triban 5 Road Bike (link).

Great cheers for that. Have u any idea of where I could get a defy 3 in Dublin. Looked at a few reviews avid the seem to be pretty good for the price.

Heard of that Triban 5. Great reviews everywhere pity they don't deliver to the republic anymore but could be worth the trip.

You should be able to find a few Giant dealers in Dublin - try here for starters

Decathlon will ship to Dublin. I think you order up a non-existent helmet for €15 or something like that. Give them a call for details.
