    Hi there,

I'm a beginner female cyclist in Dublin and looking to join a club close to the Rathmines area where I live. Anyone have recommendations?

Also, I can cycle 65k at the moment (mainly flat) at around 18k per hour. Is it too soon to join a club at this level or would I be ok..don't want to hold up a group?

    Thanks

Orwell are a great club based in Dundrum, with a large contingent of females. Winter spins should be starting next Sunday, from Joe Daly's bike shop - should have more details on the site during the week, but for now you can have a look at:

    http://orwellwheelers.org/membership.html
    http://orwellwheelers.org/club-spins-overview.html

You can trial three spins with any CI club before becoming a member (that's three total, not three with every club in Ireland), and you'll be covered by insurance, just make sure to let the spin leaders know you're new and not a member.

Disclaimer: I'm on the Orwell committee, and so slightly biased. PM me for more info if you like.

Thanks Buffalo. That's great to know. Also, just to check if it's ok to attend every second week (I'm not in Dublin every weekend) or are members expected to be there every weekend?

Nope, as many or as few spins as you like. I think I was only on two last year, but there'll be plenty who are there every week, and there's designated leaders to look after you and teach you what you need to know.

I am not in Orwell anymore, but can highly recommend the Saturday women only spins from Joe Daly's in Dundrum. There is a group aimed at beginners, the distance is around what you are doing already. Contact details on the website. It's a nice sociable group, and we did some skills sessions in Phoenix Park around this time last year.
