Can anyone help I've read through the stickies but still don't know what to do.
Car has been off the road since June and tax has expired since. Its due for an NCT on 7th of October and I'll be putting it back on the road then. what forms do I need to fill out?

RF100A to regularise your current tax situation and RF150 declaration off the road. You only have tomorrow to do this, though!

After that, only the rf150 will do to declare your non-use, and you'll be liable for the tax (i.e. no Garda off the road signature) back to July. Chances are this will be on a modified RF100 form without the space to declare non-use, maybe one of the other threads has more info on this.

    Here's all the downlow... https://www.motortax.ie/OMT/staticContent.do?page=gappinginfo

RF100 to cancel back tax (You need a Garda to sign this)

Then RF 150 to declare it off the road for a period of time that suits you

    http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/vrt/forms/

Fill out both then get rf100 stamped by a garda and hand both in at your local tax office

Can I just hand these in or do I have to que up and go through the whole rigmarole??

Takes half an hour if you want to ensure its done correctly, worth it for peace of mind.

the ques in the North Dublin can be over an hour at the best of times I'd say it will be mental tomorrow. It would be great if I can just hand it in but if I need to wait to collect something Id rather know prior!

I'm in a similar situation, but luckily have the form stamped and ready to go. I too am waiting for nct in early October, and I'm worried by the fact that on the form theres a space for "certificate of roadworthiness" number. Does anyone know for sure if your car needs to be nct'd in order to tax it?

No, it does not. You can use the previous NCT number that is on the cert. At least, that's what I did in the past.

This is a technicality to do with the last day of Sept / first day of October to do with getting Garda to sign 'off the road form'.

Just wondering do I do this today or tomorrow?

Car was not in use in September, going back on the road tomorrow Oct 1st.

I have the RF100A form filled out and ready to go, if I get that signed tomorrow Oct 1st and present it to motor tax office then do I just pay the tax from Oct 1st forward or am I liable for back tax?

The mother went into smithfeilfd today with a Rf100a filled out fro Aug and sept. She was told they were "off the system" and they could not process it for her so iv ended up paying the arrears for no reason.

Auld fella said the Queue's in Galway tax office today were out the door as he passed.

Why do Irish people always leave things until the last minute ?

Same situation as me i'm afraid. Form is accepted until today.

Doesn't matter if the president stamps it, form is worth feck all after today C.O.B. You'll have to pay the arrears because the you can't declare it off the road retrospectively after today, end of

Yup, just came from Tax office and the woman in front of me had that issue. Guards wouldnt stamp it for September until tomorrow and it won't be accepted after today, bummer.Queues were mental as well!

Presumably the Gards have been directed to do this, they are actually only witnessing your signature.

The effective last declaration date is August

So you could remove arrears up to August

was in my local office today and there was an unfortunate member of staff being ripped to shreds by someone who couldn't be arsed from what I overheard to complete the forms on time. It's about time this loophole was closed -I'm fed up paying taxes while others avoid them by every scam going.

my car was off the road since aug 2012, tax ran out nov 2012

I got the rf 100 and 150 yesterday both signed by the gard

one to say car off the road from dec 12 to aug 13 then the other form to say off from sept 2013 to aug 2014

Was told if I wanted/needed I could tax the car anytime and just pay from that month onwards

Won't be long before the change of ownership to avoid arrears loophole closes too

so what, you can't sell a car that is not taxed so? Thats silly. They should not do that.

New owner is not responsible for arrears but I'd say Means of Escape is correct -they will probably close the loophole as well to stop the scammers avoiding tax. If you are buying of a garage you should have no problems. Should just collect the tax as part of the tax on fuel -that way everyone pays based on usage and no-one avoids it (not that we don't pay enough already but as previously stated I'm fed up paying while others laugh at us)
