So they say Enda Kenny is a leader. I was under the impression a leader was a term used for someone that is courageous, brave, honest and leads by example. It seems kenny has shown his characteristics as being cowardly, grovelling, incompetent, self serving, and a proven liar.

Or perhaps i'm being cynical ;)

...Enda's flaws are more exposed, given his complete lack of personal charisma. Rather him than Bruton though.

It seems Fr Dougal maguire would make a better leader than Kenny.flaws?, does he have any positive traits?

Mussolini was a real leader. He's the only reason Italy is half habitable today. You either play business politics up North in Turin and Milan or delve into the Camorra, N'Dragneta and Cosa Nostra in the south.

Benito put two prongs up these Mafia boys arses, ran through them like a freight train. The Allied invasion of Sicily gave them back their power and influence, thanks allies.

They slaughtered him and his wife like animals in the end and then hung them upside down in Milan for the world to see. They proved the theory, Italians can't be tamed.

Ends is the main hunter gatherer of the pack.
It's just that they don't like to let him out on his own.

Most people think leaders think like Loki.

A person who can't win because you can't please all of the people all of the time. Knowing what you're getting yourself into does show a certain kind of bravery...or stupidity.

A person who talks a lot whether good or bad outcomes come out of it, and also if the crowd that follows have a sheep mentality.
the strong silent type is dead. Bill adama is my hero

I think, only Hitler and Mussolini called themselves 'Leader' ;)

    So Enda isn't a leader, isn't he?

I wasn't talking about Enda Kenny, I was talking about leaders in general. Although he does fit the profile since he's our leader.

Leaders are the opposite of people who hide behind internet message boards hurling abuse at others who are doing something that they would have neither the balls, diligence or intelligence to do.

By your thinking, you, me or anyone else are leaders..If we preach and cant win whatever that is said. Kenny cannot even hold a political debate full , A leader takes the bull by the horns.

Don't follow leaders, watch your parking meters.

    Be your own leader FFS.

I Agree, they are also people who kiss arse their 'betters' and hide behind handlers and advisors.

If you mean Kenny, I’m not sure he knew he was getting in to anything. When he got the FG gig in 2002, with the economy booming and with little prospects of FG being in power for a decade, I suspect everyone, including Enda, expected someone else would be along at some point to push him aside.

You want a leader who is courageous, brave, honest and leads my example? Only in the movies I fear, and even then a sub-standard one. (No serious drama writer would expect their audience to be convinced by such a character)

Well, why can't we be? Doesn't have to be a country you're leading. I was going up town with the lads one night. Half wanted to go to a disco bar, the other half wanted a quiet pub. I brought them to a pub that I thought would meet both their requirements, disco bar upstairs and no music downstairs. I took this proverbial bull by the horns and almost pleased everybody. There's always one little twat who's never happy though.

In fairness though, I didn't hold much of a debate either. I just ignored them, led them up town and got the job done. I didn't preach about winning though. I just told them what I was doing and done it. They followed me anyway. Sign of a good leader? Maybe :o

Are we talking about a leader or a competent leader.
Seems this country has had many leaders, few of them were competent.

Well as long as the prevailing attitude is "what's in it for me?" then by definitions we will get cute hoors, spinners for sectional interests and crooks elected to power. Haughey etc didn't come out of nowhere.

Well linguistically speaking 'Taoiseach' would be the Irish equivalent of 'Fuhrer' or 'Duce'. Read into that what you want ;)

In my job I lead, I never ask any of my crew to do a job I couldn't, keeping people motivated, knowing how to handle conflict amongst a team, exercising integrity...suggesting a place to go drinking is simply a bit of knowledge on where to go drinking.

Indeed. I hadn't forgotten about the "self loathing" police. They can go and play with themselves, seeing as they have such expertise at it.

A bit of knowledge on where to go drinking with the leadership qualities to stop them bickering, take control and lead them to the pub. Don't knock my leadership skills :(

I like to think of it as 'keeping people motivated, knowing how to handle conflict amongst a team, exercising integrity.'

And I would throw in meek, bleating, ingratiating, brainless muppet who can't take part in any form of live debate, regardless of the topic. So he's obviously a very poor reference point to use, in any form of discussion on leadership or leadership qualities.

I don't need to be led. If I needed to be led I'd get a ring on my nose and attach a leash to it.

A leader tells people what to do. A good leader makes them think it was their idea in the first place. ;)

Gary Glitter was a leader of the gang.

Like Enda, not a great leader
