Nokia n70 cant send or receive pictures

    got a nokia n70 for birthday as i have a tendanacy to lose or break phones so an iphone would not have been a good investment and im not too bothered as i only need to send and receive texts and calls so im not too bothered,however the problem is i am unable to send and receive multimedia messages such as pictures from people.
    when i try to retrieve the picture from a text i get the message packet data error . can anyone help
