ketchup or brown sauce, chef/hp/other brand?

    Personally I go through phases.

I used to be an avid hp sauce man, I'd cover almost everything with it, 'doodle' it over my chips, splat a big dollop of it at the side of the Sunday roast dinner, smear it over a sausage/rasher buttie, and it used to be absolutely delicious over steak and kidney pies.

For a brief spell I was then convinced that chef Brown sauce was even better than hp, and so chef then became the chosen condiment of mine for all my savoury snacks and dinners.

Chef tomato ketchup is rank imo though.

Heinz tomato ketchup is miles ahead, lately this is my particular poison, I like it over chips now, goes well with the Saturday morning fry up, but it's just not as versatile as Brown sauce.

For some reason I think it's a sin to put ketchup over stews, coddles etc. Meat pies also shouldn't be poisoned with ketchup either, these are brown sauce dishes as far as I'm concerned.

What's your condiment of choice, ketchup or brown sauce?
    What brand do you prefer?

Lastly, like me do you believe certain sauces are fine for one dish, but it would be disgusting for another?

    Let's talk about sauce baby.

HP means Houses of Parliament. Choose your condiments politically.

I remember as a lad, a 'Brown sauce sandwich' was pretty common.

    Sugar ones too.

You deserve an hour on the naughty step for that now! Sunday roast should not be tainted with such things as brown sauce.

For some reason I think it's a sin to put ketchup over stews, coddles etc.

Now you've redeemed yourself! Ketchup in a well made and well seasoned stew is an abomination.

I was in a pub in Dublin a while back having lunch and there was a woman across from me eating Irish Stew (which I was also having and it was quite nice)

I witnessed her first put brown sauce in it, then mayonnaise, followed a couple of minutes later by vinegar (yes vinegar!! )

Should be a space reserved in prison for such crimes against food.

Big fan of HP Fruity myself though :)

YR brown sauce all the way. And the lidl own brand brown sauce isn't a bad alternative. Brown sauce on stew, with Sunday dinner, on chips. Red sauce ( :D) on omelettes.

HP and Heinz are both sh!te. For chips I use the reggae reggae tomato and chili. For sandwiches Ballymaloe jalapeno pepper relish. Nom Nom.

I used to go crazy for "Daddies Ketchup". Have not seen it on the shelves of the supermarket in ages but did see it behind the counter in a restaurant. Not sure which one. Much more versatile with my sauces now.

    Heinz red, Chef brown.

Just discovered Chili and Coconut Mayo. WOW.

Chef Ketchup is far superior to Heinz; it's much richer and more tomatoey.
Heinz is just watery and sugary.

YR, HP and Chef brown sauce. Go through phases of each.

How anyone thinks Heinz is better than Chef is beyond me. Watery auld piss is all it is.

I'm loving Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce from the states. Beautiful.
