    Hi,

I have an air rifle and hundreds of lead pellets which i bought years ago through an english magazine. I didnt need a licence at the time and they shipped over not a bother. I understand now that i need a licence even to buy more pellets?

Anyway, im looking to get back into it now just for target practice and am getting sick of the back garden. But would i be arrested if caught with it in a safe/remote area of the mountains just hitting targets?

How would i go about getting a licence for this low powered single shot rifle? Its not exactly an ak47!

You'd best drop it off to a RFD and apply for a licence for it before you think about where you're going to shoot it.

Lad what you have there is completely illegal. Doesnt matter how low the power is or if its single shot or not. You are in possession of an unlicensed firearm. If it produces over 1 joule of energy then you need a license. As for getting it through the post, well Im sure theres all sorts of laws broken there too. We all have to follow the laws that allow us to own and use guns here in ireland. Do yourself and US a favour and do things by the book...

RFD registered firearms dealer. Leave the gun with a dealer, as he is legally allowed to hold it while you apply for a licence.

Then apply for your licence by filling out the firearms application form and drop it into your local garda station. There should be a garda there that specifically deals with firearm applications, you should meet with him/her for a chat.

then wait for the application to be processed and get your licence. Then you have a licenced, legal firearm.

As pointed out already, you currently have an illegal firearm. You need to sort that out.

Thanks guys, will do that this afternoon.

As for the guys who posted it to me years ago, this was through a seemingly reputable company advertised in a UK monthly air rifle magazine. Honestly didn't think I even needed a licence for it then, so why would they just post it like that without even asking the question?

The UK don't require a license, it's an over the counter job for them

    Ballybough
    Finglas
    Tallaght ...

    Shall I continue?

As Stevegeaghty said. Anything up to 12ft lbs in England doesnt require a license. A 12ft lb air rifle here would be pretty low power. A good friend of mine has a BSA that puts out over 30ft lbs. Youd be better off getting a license for something decent like that.

A safe will also be need air rifle is a rifle here.

My advice is get a Weihrauch spring air rifle i have one in .22 kills up to 40-50 yards no bother or if you can splash the cash get a gas but they cost upward of 1000 unless you get an air arms.Good gas ones are Weihrauch,BSA,Daystate,FX.

Id go for a .22lr if money is tight and you want a bit of range!
