Just wondering if anyone has rented a car in Peurto del Carmen, Lanzorate,? Trying to suss out if it's worth the money as I believe the island is very small.

Also, would it be better to book online or arrange it when over there?

Have never been to this island and haven't had experience of renting a car before so this is all new to me

    Thanks in advance

We're just back from Lanzarote, we always use Autoreisen, we pick the car up from the airport and never had a problem, also it was only €85 for the week.

I would definitely recommend getting a car, it's an amazing island and you'll be able to drive through the national park.

If you dont fancy the agro of driving, car hire, car parking etc etc then do keep in mind that there is a pretty darn good public bus service :

There are plenty of cheap places where you can get a Fiesta for €25 a day. Get to your hotel and if you feel the need, book a car for a couple of days.

I wouldn't bother booking one for your entire stay, unless you have a place out in the sticks.

Give these guys a try: http://www.cabreramedina.com/EN

They're a local hire firm attached to the biggest chain of car dealerships on the Canary Islands. Loads of branches in the resorts on Lanzarote and they'll also deliver and collect the car from your hotel.

Also, they tend to have the newest fleet of cars available. Any time I've used them I've always got a car with very low mileage.

The last time we were there, we got a three day cheap rental(Peugeot 106) from KH Car Rentals, on Calle Los Afrechos(Puerto Del Carmen). The final day of the rental was our departure day, and for an extra 5 Euro we were able to leave the car at the airport, thus saving a 20 Euro taxi fare. :)

Its Defo a good idea to rent a car as you can go all over the Island at your own pace, and to places that the tours dont go.

Its worth it just for the drive down the hairpins to Haira and the valley of the Palms. :)

A big Thank You to everyone that took the time out to reply.

Gonna rent a car for a day or two, doesn't make sense renting it out for the week going by my research!
